The Mouth Silenced By Java

Level 30 : 12,000/24,000, 3,000 ante
Mike Matusow
Mike Matusow

Mike "Mouth123" Matusow moved all in for 294,878 under the gun and Nipun "Javatini" Java called from the button. Both blinds folded and Matusow discovered the bad news.

Mike "Mouth123" Matusow: {5-Diamonds}{5-Clubs}
Nipun "Javatini" Java: {j-Spades}{j-Diamonds}

The {3-Hearts}{8-Diamonds}{4-Spades} flop changed nothing, but the {7-Diamonds} turn did give Matusow a gutshot straight draw to a six. It didn't come in though as the {8-Hearts} bricked the river.

Matusow exited in 22nd place for $2,368.

WSOP Legend: Doyle Brunson's Final Bracelet

Level 28 : 8,000/16,000, 2,000 ante
WSOP Legend Doyle Brunson
WSOP Legend Doyle Brunson

At the beginning of the 2005 WSOP, Doyle Brunson remained the co-king of the all-time bracelet count, tied along with Johnny Chan at nine. However, as the series drew toward its close in late June, that was no longer the case — Chan had overtaken him by winning No. 10 to stand atop the mountain alone.

Brunson was already phasing out his tournament play, having cashed precisely zero times that summer and just three times in the previous two combined, although one had resulted in a bracelet victory.

When it came time for Event #31: $5,000 No-Limit Hold'em 6-Handed, Brunson dusted off his tournament chops and made a run.
