Katz Wins Pot, Bonds Over Southern Roots

Level 1 : 100/200, 200 ante

Cary Katz was out of position in a heads-up pot against Dennis Richardson on a board reading {2-Clubs}{5-Diamonds}{10-Hearts}. Katz checked before calling a bet of 900 from Richardson.

Both players checked on the {9-Spades} turn. Katz led out with a small bet of 200 on the {q-Spades} river and goaded his opponent.

"I'm giving you a bargain," Katz said. "My three-four didn't get there."

Richardson said he knew his "ace-high is no good" and folded. After the hand, Richardson and Katz bonded over their shared southern roots.

"I'm a southerner, too. I'm from Georgia," Katz told Richardson, who is from Kentucky.

Hanks' Heater

Level 1 : 100/200, 200 ante

The first hand that involved Brent Hanks was at the river and had Hanks taking in a nice pot as his {7-}{6-} was the winner on a board that was quickly swept away by the dealer that included both a seven and a six for a two-pair hand.

It appeared as though his opponent had top pair with ace-jack with an ace on the board but was no good vs Hanks's two-pair.

Action on the second hand was picked up on the turn with Hanks under the gun versus a player in the small blind. The board read {2-Spades}{q-Diamonds}{5-Diamonds}{q-Hearts} and Hanks called a bet of 1,600 from the small blind player.

The river came out a {7-Hearts} and the small blind bet 1,600 once more. Hanks said "Let's make it 3,200," and the small blind player called. Hanks tabled {k-Spades}{q-Spades} and the opponent mucked his cards. The rest of the table all agreed "He's on a heater."
