Rones Making the Most of First Tournament

Level 13 : 2,000/4,000, 0 ante

Todd Rones is currently sitting on a stack of around 80,000. The fact he's above average is impressive enough. What makes it even more impressive is that this is his first poker tournament ever.

"I have friends back home telling me, 'You don't have any chips.' I've got lots of chips," Rones said.

"I probably won't make any money but I'm having a lot of fun."

Campbell Gives it Up

Level 13 : 2,000/4,000, 0 ante

Robert Campbell re-raised pre-flop and was called by Lee Markholt in the big blind and the original raiser under the gun.

Markholt led out on the {8-Spades}{7-Clubs}{10-Hearts} flop and got two calls. The turn came the {2-Hearts}.

Markholt bet again and the under-the-gun player quickly folded. Campbell studied the board for a moment before he also released his hand.

Two in a Row for Freedman

Level 14 : 2,500/5,000, 0 ante
Wendy Freedman
Wendy Freedman

Three players put in 8,000 each before the flop came {10-Hearts}{6-Clubs}{2-Diamonds}. The small blind bet and both Kevin Song and Wendy Freedman made the call.

The {8-Clubs} fell on the turn, the small blind bet again, was called by both players.

When the {6-Diamonds} hit the river, the small blind and Song quickly checked. Freedman hesitated before deciding to check back. The small blind tabled {a-Diamonds}{q-Diamonds} for ace-high, Song showed {3-Clubs}{3-Diamonds} and Freedman took down the pot with {8-Hearts}{5-Hearts}, turning a pair of eights.

The following hand, Freedman raised in middle position and the big blind defended.

The dealer spread a flop of {10-Hearts}{8-Hearts}{3-Diamonds} and once checked to, Freedman tossed in some chips to bet. The big blind wasted little time tossing her cards into the middle, awarding the second pot in a row to Freedman.

Gerhart Gets Paid

Level 14 : 2,500/5,000, 0 ante

Kevin Gerhart was heads-up on a flop of {a-Spades}{6-Hearts}{9-Hearts} and put out a bet from middle position. His opponent in the big blind then came back with a raise.

Gerhart called, then called another bet on the {a-Hearts} turn.

The river came the {7-Spades} and the big blind slowed down with a check. Gerhart put out five yellow chips for a bet, leaving himself only a few thousand behind. The big blind spent a few moments shuffling his chips before matching it.

The four-time bracelet winner turned over {a-Clubs}{7-Clubs} for a full house and his opponent mucked.

Venkata Tayi was facing a raise on the flop of {4-Spades}{9-Clubs}{9-Hearts} and called. His opponent bet again on the {j-Spades} turn.

This time, Tayi pointed his thumb upward signaling he was going to raise. The original better called and they both checked down the {j-Diamonds} river.

Tayi turned over {4-Hearts}{4-Diamonds} for the flopped full house that was good enough to take down another big pot and add to his massive stack.

Eight on the River for Erickson

Level 14 : 2,500/5,000, 0 ante

The under-the-gun player raised and Kevin Erickson three-bet in the hijack. The action quickly folded back around to the original raiser who called.

The flop came {10-Clubs}{9-Clubs}{5-Hearts} and once Erickson's opponent checked he tossed in a bet and his opponents chips landed at the same time to make the call.

The {9-Hearts} fell on the turn and the player first to act quickly check-called another bet.

The {8-Hearts} landed on the river and Erickson's opponent checked and then snap-called once again. Erickson tabled {8-Spades}{8-Clubs} for a full house and his opponent mucked his hand.
