Matthew Gonzales Eliminated in 4th Place ($78,435)

Level 21 : 20,000/40,000, 0 ante
Matthew Gonzales
Matthew Gonzales

After losing a big portion of his stack in a pot against Kyle Dilschneider, Matthew Gonzales opened from under the gun and was called by Matthew Schreiber in the big blind.

Schreiber checked on the flop of {8-Diamonds}{j-Spades}{6-Spades} and called a bet from Gonzales. Schreiber then check-raised on the {5-Diamonds} turn and Gonzales re-raised in turn. Schreiber called.

Schreiber checked on the {q-Clubs} river and snap-called a bet from Gonzales, who tabled an overpair with {k-Diamonds}{k-Hearts}. It was no good against the flopped two pair of Gonzales with {j-Hearts}{8-Spades}.

Gonzales was left with crumbs and was forced in from the big blind the next hand in a heads-up pot against Kyle Dilschneider.

Matthew Gonzales: {q-Hearts}{5-Clubs}
Kyle Dilschneider: {a-Spades}{8-Spades}

The flop of {2-Diamonds}{7-Clubs}{3-Spades} didn't help Gonzales but he picked up a pair on the {5-Diamonds} turn. But the {4-Diamonds} on the river gave Dilschneider a straight and Gonzales was eliminated in fourth place after running cold since returning from the dinner break.

Gonzales Loses Pot to Schreiber; Relays Earlier Cooler

Level 20 : 15,000/30,000, 0 ante

Matthew Gonzales in the big blind was in a heads-up pot against Matthew Schreiber in the small blind.

Schreiber bet on the flop of {10-Diamonds}{j-Spades}{q-Spades} and Gonzales called. Schreiber checked on the {8-Spades} turn and Gonzales checked back. Both players checked again on the {6-Diamonds} river.

Gonzales announced he had a jack but it was not enough to beat the {q-Diamonds}{4-Clubs} of Schreiber for a better pair.

Gonzales also told PokerNews about an earlier hand where he took a brutal beat in a set-over-set cooler against Jonathan Cohen. Gonzales had a set of jacks versus the set of aces of Cohen, who was awarded a pot worth 1,400,000.
