Defending Champ Lally Busts Abolfathi

Level 16
Jaswinder Lally
Jaswinder Lally

2-7 No-Limit Single Draw

Jaswinder Lally raised to 5,500 on the button and Kianoush Abolfathi three-bet all in for around 25,000 from the small blind. The big blind folded and Lally called.

Abolfathi stood pat and immediately got to his feet after Lally stood pat behind and tabled {8-}{7-}{6-}{4-}{2-}

Abolfathi showed {j-}{8-}{7-}{5-}{3-} and reached forward to grab what his drawn card would have been. He would have drawn a {6-} but even that wouldn't have been enough, and he was eliminated.

Cantu Stands Pat to Bust Marlowe

Level 16

No-Limit 2-7 Single Draw

John Marlowe stuck his last 47,000 in the middle before the draw and Brandon Cantu gave it some thought before calling.

"Pat," Cantu said, while Marlowe took one. Cantu turned over {9-Hearts}{8-Spades}{5-Spades}{3-Clubs}{2-Hearts}, while Marlowe showed {8-Clubs}{6-Spades}{4-Spades}{2-Clubs} and needed to improve.

He didn't get any help, flipping over the {2-Spades} to pair his deuce and he quickly got up and made his exit.

Former POY Schneider Scoops in Badacey

Level 16

Badacey

Tom Schneider's cards were on their backs in a pot against James Johnson. Schneider held {5-Spades}{4-Diamonds}{3-Hearts}{2-Hearts}{a-Clubs} for a five low and a five badugi, with Johnson studying his cards intently.

Eventually, Johnson flung his cards open onto the table. "I don't know," he said. "Is that any good?"

The dealer quickly surveyed the cards before gathering them into the muck.

"Six 'dugi no good, huh?" muttered Johnson aloud. "Nice hand."

Stein Forgets the Game and Busts

Level 16

Badeucy

Z Stein was on an extreme short-stack and was all in against Cong Tran and Nicolas Fountotos. Stein prepared to turn over his hand on the first draw.

"Oh, this is triple draw," Stein said as he sat back down and took three. In the sidepot, Tran bet and Fountotos called.

Stein took another two, Fountotos drew one, while Tran stood pat. Tran bet again, then called when Fountotos raised.

Tran had {10-Diamonds}{8-Spades}{6-Spades}{5-Hearts}{3-Clubs} for a ten-low, but Fountotos had him beat with {7-Hearts}{6-Diamonds}{5-Clubs}{4-Spades}{2-Clubs} for a seven-low and a Badugi. Stein had {k-Diamonds}{8-Hearts}{6-Clubs}{4-Hearts}{3-Diamonds} and was eliminated.

Johnson Stays Alive by the Skin of His Teeth

Level 16

Badacey

James Johnson called a raise from Jacob Boyle leaving himself just 2,500 behind. Boyle drew one and Johnson agonized over his decision before drawing three and checking.

Boyle bet and Johnson continued to agonize before calling. Even then, he continued to deliberate which cards to discard. Eventually, he discarded three and Boyle stood pat.

The final draw saw both players stand pat.

Johnson tabled {6-Spades}{5-Spades}{4-Diamonds}{3-Hearts}{2-Clubs} for a six badugi, six low beating the {10-Hearts}{6-Clubs}{3-Spades}{2-Diamonds}{a-Spades} of Boyle, and Johnson stayed alive.

Yu Holds On with His Straight

Level 16

Pot Limit Omaha

The under the gun player raised to 5,000 before finding callers in Ben Yu on the button and Yuebin Guo from the big blind. The flop brought {a-Spades}{k-Hearts}{a-Diamonds}. All three players checked the potentially powerful board.

The turn brought the {j-Diamonds}, adding even more possibilities. Guo led out for 11,000, the under the gun player folded, and Yu called on the button after some thought.

The river landed the {3-Diamonds}, bringing in the potential back-door flush. Both players checked.

Guo showed {a-Hearts}{8-Hearts}{8-Diamonds}{4-Clubs} for flopped trips, but Yu had {a-Clubs}{q-Clubs}{10-Spades}{7-Spades} for a better flopped trips that turned the straight and took down the pot.
