Level 18 : 5,000/10,000, 10,000 ante

Ribeiro Spikes the River to Double

Level 18 : 5,000/10,000, 10,000 ante

Anthony Ribeiro moved all in for his last 98,000 from early position. In the small blind, bracelet winner Harrison Gimbel re-shoved and the big blind got out of the way.

Anthony Ribeiro: {a-Spades}{9-Spades}
Harrison Gimbel: {a-Clubs}{10-Diamonds}

Gimbel had Ribeiro dominated and stayed in front as the board came {3-Diamonds}{q-Clubs}{3-Clubs}{2-Hearts}, but the river brought the {9-Clubs} and a double up to Ribeiro. Gimbel reacted to the bad beat by calmly handing over most of his stack.

Gatta Gets the Knockout

Level 18 : 5,000/10,000, 10,000 ante
Nelio Gatta
Nelio Gatta

Nelio Gatta open shoved 123,000 from middle position. Action folded to the big blind, who thought long and hard before calling off with the effective stack for their tournament life.

Big Blind Player: {a-Hearts}{6-Hearts}
Nelio Gatta: {a-Spades}{q-Diamonds}

Gatta had his opponent dominated and looked set to get the knockout. The {10-Spades}{7-Hearts}{q-Spades} all but sealed the deal and the {a-Diamonds} turn ended matters, though Gatta did fill up on the {q-Clubs} river.

"Uncle Ron" Sends One Out

Level 17 : 4,000/8,000, 8,000 ante

Mason "Uncle Ron" Hinkle and an opponent were all in preflop for his opponent's last 90,000.

All-In Player: {a-Spades}{k-Diamonds}
Mason Hinkle: {7-Spades}{7-Hearts}

It was a classic flip, but the drama was taken out when the flop came {q-Hearts}{5-Hearts}{7-Diamonds}, giving Hinkle a set of sevens.

"Going to be hard to beat that," his opponent said as he got up out of his seat and prepared to make his exit.

The board ran out {6-Clubs}{k-Hearts} and the all-in player made a pair on the river, but it was too little, too late as he joined the post-bubble bustouts.

Oliver Survives With a Jack

Level 17 : 4,000/8,000, 8,000 ante

Jack Oliver, the third-place finisher in last year's Main Event, re-raised all in for his last 64,000 from the big blind and the button called after a brief tank.

Jack Oliver: {j-Hearts}{10-Hearts}
Button: {k-Spades}{9-Spades}

Oliver took the lead in the hand on the {j-Diamonds}{q-Spades}{3-Clubs} flop and stayed ahead as the board ran out {4-Clubs}{6-Spades} to secure the double up.

Herget Just Misses Out

Level 17 : 4,000/8,000, 8,000 ante
Steve Yea
Steve Yea

Mike Herget moved all in from the small blind and was called by Steve Yea with the bigger stack out of the big blind. As the two players waited with their hole cards face down for the floor to give the go-ahead to the dealer to deal the hand, Yea said to Herget, "I have trash."

To which Herget responded, "You don't have trash."

At this point the dealer reminded both players that they are not supposed to discuss the contents of their hands. After a few minutes, a floorman came over and both players turned over their hands.

Mike Herget: {9-Spades}{9-Hearts}
Steve Yea: {10-Hearts}{j-Diamonds}

It was a flip for Herget's tournament life with a spot in the money on the line. The {6-Diamonds}{7-Hearts}{k-Diamonds} flop kept Herget ahead but Yea binked the {j-Spades} on the turn to pull ahead. The {k-Hearts} river changed nothing, sending Herget home painfully close to the money.
