Smith Triples Up With Quads

Level 8 : 600/1,200, 1,200 ante
Chris Smith
Chris Smith

There was a raise to 3,300 from under the gun, Chris Smith flat-called from middle position, and the button mistakenly put in 5,300 trying to call.

The ruling is that it was a raise and the original raiser called. Smith ripped it in for about 21,000 and only the button called.

Button: {a-Spades}{k-Hearts}
Chris Smith: {j-Spades}{j-Clubs}

It was great news for Smith on the {j-Hearts}{k-Spades}{6-Clubs} flop as he made a set of jacks. The turn {k-Diamonds} was a dangerous one though as the button picked up some boat outs.

The river, however, peeled off the last jack in the deck {j-Diamonds}, to give Smith quads over kings full. With that pot, Smith moves back above his starting stack thanks to a little run good.

Cherry Doubles Up With Straight

Level 8 : 600/1,200, 1,200 ante

Joining the action three ways on the flop of {j-Clubs}{10-Hearts}{9-Spades}. Play checked to the cutoff who bet 6,000. Only Aaron Cherry called on the button.

The turn was the {5-Diamonds} and again Cherry check-called the cutoff bet of 10,000.

The {7-Hearts} was the river and the cutoff slowed down by checking. Cherry moved all in for 23,000 and the cutoff called quickly. Cherry showed {k-Hearts}{8-Spades} for a straight which caused his opponent to muck as he realised he was beat.

Cardoso Puts Pressure on Bittker

Level 7 : 500/1,000, 1,000 ante

PokerNews's own Jack Bittker raised on the button to 3,000 and was called by Anderson Cardoso in the big blind.

The flop came {q-Spades}{3-Clubs}{2-Clubs} and Bittker bet 3,000 when checked to. Cardoso put in the raise to 8,000. Bittker paused before making the call.

The turn was the {10-Spades} and Cardoso moved all in for 24,600. Bittker said "I have 15 outs and I could be ahead". He went into the tank before saying "If I fold will you show?". Bittker open folded {a-Clubs}{j-Clubs} for ace high with a flush draw and gutshot. Cardoso showed {8-Spades}{6-Spades} for the bluff as he scooped in the pot.
