Jordan Pelon Dominates Day 2 of The Colossus as 68 Remain

Level 32 : 150,000/300,000, 300,000 ante
Jordan Pelon

Day 2 of Event #51: $400 The Colossus No Limit Hold'em certainly lived up to its moniker. What started as a massive field of 1,695 players spread out across the Bally’s ballroom ended after 15 40-minute levels with 68 hopefuls still in the hunt for the prestigious World Series of Poker bracelet.

Leading the way is a Frenchman who was an unstoppable force throughout the day. Jordan Pelon has just one recorded WSOP cash for $4,483, but he put on a clinic today, knocking out opponent after opponent on his way to bagging up 30,350,000 chips.

Pelon’s closest challengers include Ari Oxman (17,200,000), Frank Jamrow (15,975,000), and Gabriel Andrade (15,525,000), who entertained his table both with his play and his singing. Bracelet winner David Jackson survived the day on a short stack of 4,600,000.

Everyone who made it through to Day 3 still has a shot at the title and $414,490 first prize when play resumes at 11 a.m. local time on June 27 inside the Bally’s Event Center. But for countless others, their dream ended on Day 2 and ended quickly. Cries of “payout” resonated around the room from the start of play, with the clock having to be paused twice so tournament officials could catch up on all the payouts.

Along the way, Alejandro “Papa MC” Lococo (1,345th), Joseph Cheong (807th), PokerGo’s Donnie Peters (235th), Day 1 chip leader Kao “Flexx” Saechao (132nd), and Joseph “JoeytheMush” Straub (107th) would all find their way to the lenghty payout line.

It was truly a colossal field that took to the felt today on Day 2. For 68 players, that journey continues from 11:00 a.m. on June 27, and PokerNews will be on hand as they race to the final table and eventually crown The Colossus champion.

"JoeytheMush" Doesn't Win His All In

Level 31 : 125,000/250,000, 250,000 ante
Joseph Straub
Joseph Straub

Just before the end of the previous level, a player in middle position raised to 450,000 and Joseph "JoeytheMush" Straub called from the next seat over. Andy Su shoved from the cutoff for just under 3,000,000 and the middle position got out of the way before Straub called with slightly more. Action was heads up and Su was at risk with just 225,000 less than Straub.

Andy Su: {5-Clubs}{5-Spades}
Joseph "JoeytheMush" Straub: {10-Hearts}{10-Spades}

The Mush was in great shape, but the board ran out {a-Spades}{5-Diamonds}{7-Spades}{5-Hearts}{2-Diamonds} and Su picked up quads to leave Straub looking dejected with his few remaining chips.

A few moments later, Straub was seen gathering his things while he patiently waited for the payout clerk.

Former PokerNews Editor-in-Chief Done and Dusted

Level 27 : 50,000/100,000, 100,000 ante
Donnie Peters
Donnie Peters

The elimination of former PokerNews Editor-in-Chief Donnie Peters, an industry veteran who now works for PokerGO, went uncaptured when it happened, but he was kind enough to share some details after the fact.

As he told it, he moved all in under the gun for 860,000 holding the {6-Clubs}{6-Hearts} and a player in late position moved all in over the top for 1.1 million with the {a-Clubs}{k-Clubs}.

Peters was looking to win the race, but that proved easier said than done as the flop fell {a-Diamonds}{j-Clubs}{9-Spades} to pair his opponent. Neither the {10-Hearts} turn nor {q-Diamonds} river delivered salvation for Peters and he made his way to the payout desk.

"JoeytheMush" Flushes Opponent

Level 27 : 50,000/100,000, 100,000 ante
Joseph "JoeytheMush" Straub
Joseph "JoeytheMush" Straub

A short-stacked player moved all in for 525,000 from early position and Joseph "JoeytheMush" Straub, who poker fans might know from his appearances in Ryan Depaulo's popular vlog, called next to act. The rest of the players folded and the hands were turned up.

Joseph "JoeytheMush" Straub: {a-Hearts}{q-Hearts}
Opponent: {j-Hearts}{8-Diamonds}

Straub was good but not after the flop fell {j-Diamonds}{10-Diamonds}{10-Hearts} to pair his opponent. Fortunately for "JoeytheMush", the running {6-Hearts} turn and {9-Hearts} river gave him a heart flush to score the knockout and collect the pot.

Barstool Nate No More

Level 20 : 10,000/20,000, 20,000 ante
Eric Nathan
Eric Nathan

The elimination of Eric Nathan, AKA Barstool Nate, went unreported when it happened earlier in the day, but PokerNews was able to learn some details after the fact.

The man himself explained that the small blind ripped it preflop with {3-}{3-} and he called off for 350,000 in the big with the {a-Hearts}{k-Hearts}.

Barstool Nate flopped two hearts to go with his overs, which made him a slight favorite, but he bricked both the turn and river to bust the tournament early on Day 2.

Saechao Leads as Colossus Field Combines into One for Day 2

Kao "Flexx" Saechao
Kao "Flexx" Saechao

The word colossus is defined as a thing of “enormous size,” and Event #51: $400 Colossus No-Limit Hold’em certainly fits that description.

Two starting days saw 13,565 players spread out over the Paris and Bally’s ballrooms. Of that massive field, just 1,689 are still in the hunt for the World Series of Poker bracelet when Day 2 begins at 10 a.m. local time.

Leading the way is Kao "Flexx" Saechao, who managed to turn his 40,000 starting stack into 1,514,000 heading into Day 2. Former November Niner Bruno Politano (1,016,000), bracelet winner Ryan Laplante (755,000), who has already locked up his 100th career WSOP cash, and PokerGo’s Donnie Peters (597,000) also return with big stacks.

Others still remaining but more in the middle of the pack include Joe Serock (373,000) and two Main Event finalists, Nick Marchington (311,000) and Alejandro “Papo MC” Lococo (247,000).

Day 2 will consist of 15 40-minute levels and pick up on Level 18, with blinds at 6,000-12,000 and a 12,000 big blind ante. There will be a dinner break after Level 29, which should come around 7 p.m. The full prize pool has yet to be confirmed and will be announced sometime during the day.

What was once a mammoth field will be combined into Bally’s for Day 2, and PokerNews will be on hand throughout the day to capture all of the action.
