Zhang Scores Knockout

Level 5 : Blinds 300/600, 600 ante

After a raise to 1,500 and a three bet to 6,500, Min Zhang four bet shoved for over 100,000. She got one caller, who had an effective stack of around 25,000.

Opponent: {j-Hearts}{j-Clubs}
Min Zhang: {a-Spades}{k-Diamonds}

Zhang connected in a big way on the {k-Hearts}{4-Hearts}{k-Clubs} flop, leaving her opponent drawing thin. The {7-Clubs} turn and {10-Hearts} river were of no help to either player, and the pot belonged to Zhang.

Clark Chipping UP

Level 5 : Blinds 300/600, 600 ante

The board read {4-Hearts}{7-Hearts}{2-Diamonds}{4-Diamonds}{9-Diamonds} on the river with three players in the hand. The small blind led for 7,300. Scotter Clark called in the big blind. The button then tanked for a while before folding.

The small blind said "you win" to Clark and Clark responded, "I know I win but let's see what you got". But his opponent did not show, Clark showed the {10-Clubs}{9-Clubs} anyway and took in his chips as his stack building continues on Day 1d.

Alan Sternberg
Alan Sternberg

A player raised in early position to 1,500 and the action folded around to Alan Sternberg who put in a three-bet to 5,500. The blinds quickly folded and the original raiser took only a couple of seconds before giving it up.

Sternberg let him know he made a good fold by tabling the {a-Spades}{k-Diamonds} and his opponent thanked him as he said, "I was dominated but I had a good hand."

Parisi Chips Up off Mateos

Level 5 : Blinds 300/600, 600 ante

A preflop raise to 1,300 from a player in early position had Adrian Mateos in the cutoff and Michael Parisi in the big blind calling to see a flop. The dealer fanned {k-Diamonds}{10-Spades}{5-Spades} out and it was checked to Mateos who bet 1,300. The Parisi called and the original raiser folded.

The turn was a {6-Hearts} and both players checked.

On the river a {3-Diamonds} showed up and once again was checked by both. Parisi flipped over {a-Clubs}{q-Spades} and the ace high was good enough to take the pot as Mateos folded.

Level 5 : Blinds 300/600, 600 ante
Cliff Josephy
Cliff Josephy

There was approximately 15,000 in the middle on the {7-Diamonds}{10-Spades}{4-Clubs} flop and Cliff Josephy, aka "JohnnyBax" fired out 5,500.

His opponent went deep into the blender for two minutes before opting to fold.

Josephy pushed forward his to cards as an offer to show and flipped over the {a-Clubs} as he dragged the pot.

"The other one is the three of hearts right?" asked his opponent.

Josephy put his hands in the air as if to say "I don't know".

Top Pair Good for Hachem

Level 5 : Blinds 300/600, 600 ante

The heads-up action was picked up with around 6,500 in the pot and a board of {6-Spades}{9-Hearts}{2-Clubs}{q-Diamonds} on the table.

Both players checked through the turn card, leading to the {8-Clubs} river. Joe Hachem, in early position, fired for 4,000. After a minute or so of thought, his opponent, on the button, made the call. Hachem turned over {a-Hearts}{q-Hearts} for top pair, and his opponent tossed his cards into the muck.

While it may not have been the Day 1 that the 2005 Main Event Champion had been hoping for, with his stack below where it started, he remains in the running.
