$1,500 Mixed Omaha Action Gets Underway at 2 PM

Welcome back to PokerNews, the official media partner of the 2024 World Series of Poker and home of live updates from all bracelet events.

Today sees the start of Event #43: $1,500 Mixed Omaha (Pot-Limit Omaha Hi-Lo 8 or Better, Omaha Hi-Lo 8 or Better, & Big O (8-Handed) here at Horseshoe and Paris Las Vegas.

This three-day event gets underway at 2 p.m. local time with late registration open for nine levels (approximately 8:45 p.m.). There will be 15-minute breaks every three levels, with no dinner break pencilled in. Players are permitted two reentries.

The starting stack is 25,000 chips with the plan for Day 1 to play 15 40-minute levels. For the surviving players, Day 2 resumes at 1 p.m. Monday, levels increase to 60 minutes, and closes after another ten levels of play. A winner will be crowned on Day 3.

Last year’s event was the largest field in the event's history, with a field of 1,091 entries generating a prize pool of $1,456,485. The winner was William Leffingwell, who defeated Zhen Cai heads-up to win $253,651 and his first WSOP bracelet.

Supported by a loud and passionate rail, Leffingwell told PokerNews "I love these people, and I love Houston. We've been through a lot these last couple of years, and poker down there is the best in the world."

Olsby and Kwiatkowski Off to a Hot Start

The under the gun player raised to 400 and everyone except the small blind made the call.

When the flop came Q37, the big blind was quick to check. Under the gun continued for 200. Both Kris Kwiatkowski and Keith Olsby called from the cutoff and button, respectively.

The turn was the 9 and all three players were quick to check.

When the river came the 6, both under the gun and Kwiatkowski checked to Olsby. He fired for 400 and received a call from both players. Olsby showed A226 for the nut low and Kwiatkowski AQJK for the high with the nut flush.

Van Der Loo Makes A Straight

Acton folded to Bill Smith in the small blind who raised and was called by Mark van der Loo in the big blind.

The flop came 927 and Smith check-called the bet from Van Der Loo.

After the K came on the turn, Smith lead out for a bet and was called by Van Der Loo.

The river was the Q and Smith again check-called a bet from Van Der Loo.

Van Der Loo showed down J1082 for the nut straight to take down the pot.

Action was caught after the turn of A8K3 and under the gun led out for 200.

The cutoff made the call and Yuan Jinmui raised to a pot size bet of 1,700.

Both remaining players mucked their hands for Jinmui to take the pot.

Matusow Doubles Early

Acton was picked up on a flop showing 9Q5 with three players, when a player from the small blind bet out. Mike Matusow in the big blind then put in a raise, and player on the button folded. The player in the small blind put in a three-bet, before Matusow put in a four-bet all in, which was called by the small blind.

Mike Matusow: AQQ107 All in
Small Blind: Q9876

It was Matusow ahead with his set of queens versus the top two pair of the small blind, who also had a flush and straight draw.

When the board ran out J on the turn and K on the river, Matusow improved to a flush, to get the early double up.

Moore Risks it All to Chop With Dukes

Action was caught after the board ran out 75A66 and Sean Moore moved all in from the small blind.

Garrett Dukes made the call and the button folded as both players revealed their hands.

It was a chop as Moore showed 7236K for the nut low and Dukes AA98J for the high with aces-full.
