Brannan Makes the Right Call

Level 15 : Blinds 3,000/5,000, 5,000 ante

The pot had grown to 102,000 with two players looking at a completed board of 944105.

The big blind led out for a pot-sized bet of 102,000, sending Frank Brannan, in the hijack, deep into the tank. Brannan thought for several minutes, verbalising his thought process as he did so before finally making the call.

The big blind rolled over Q987 for a pair of nines, while Brannan won this pot with AA103 for an over-pair to the board.

As the tournament clock was paused and the floor were verifying the number of remaining players, David Docherty at table 59 had already burst the bubble.

As recounted by Docherty, all the chips went in the middle on a flop that read 1052.

David Docherty: Ax8x6x4x

The turn landed the 3x to complete Docherty's gutshot draw straight draw, cracking the top set of his opponent. The river landed a brick and Docherty's straight ensured all 196 remaining players were now in the money.

Attiyah and Hunichen Don’t Care About the Bubble

Level 14 : Blinds 2,000/4,000, 4,000 ante

According to the players, Ray Attiyah raised from the button preflop and Chris Hunichen three-bet from the big blind. Attiyah, who was not particularly deep to start the hand, called. Before the dealer dealt the flop, Attiyah said: “I don’t care about the bubble.” Hunichen responded: “Neither do I.”

The flop was J10J and Hunichen continued for a bet of around 30,000. Attiyah raised all in for 40,000 total and Hunichen called.

Chris Hunichen: AQ96

Hunichen turned over his hand first and Attiyah told him he was in bad shape. Indeed, Hunichen only had running cards to improve to a flush or better trips. The turn was the J, however, ending the hand by giving Attiyah quads. The river was the meaningless 2. Attiyah doubled-up and also survived the bubble.
