After a preflop betting war, a large amount amount of chips found their way into the middle between Dustin Nelson and Ray Attiyah, with Nelson covering.
Ray Attiyah: A♣K♥Q♣6♥
Dustin Nelson: A♠A♦Q♥4♠
Attiyah would need some help to stay alive, but the runout of 7♣8♥J♠8♠5♠ only improved Nelson to a flush to send him out in 19th place, triggering a three-table redraw.
Alfred Karlsson checked the big blind on the flop of Q♥6♣5♥. Pedro Neves was under the gun and bet 175,000, which was the pot. Karlsson raised the pot, which put Neves all in for 400,000 total. Neves called.
Pedro Neves: A♦A♣6♦3♣
Alfred Karlsson: K♣J♣5♠5♦
Karlsson flopped bottom set, which was way ahead of Neves‘s aces.
The turn 7♣ brought in the nut flush draw as well as a gutshot for Neves. However, the river was the 9♦, Neves did not improve and was eliminated.
Dustin Nelson raised to 90,000 from the small blind and Dumitru-Adrian Pora called from middle position.
The flop came 3♣Q♠A♥ and Nelson continued for 60,000. Pora found the call.
While the turn peeled the 7♥, both players were quick to check.
The river was the 4♥ and Nelson fired for 350,000. Pora eventually made the call. He was shown the bad news as Nelson revealed J♥9♥A♣8♣ to take the pot.
On a flop of 2♥4♥K♠, all of the chips got into the middle between Patrik Jaros and Jose Ramos, with Jaros covering.
"Pay me 475,000!" Ramos said confidently as he tabled his hand.
Jose Ramos: A♥9♦8♥5♠
Patrik Jaros: 6♠5♣2♦2♣
Jaros was ahead with his flopped set and gutshot straight draw, but the runout of J♦5♥ gave Ramos exactly what he was looking for with the nut flush and he raked in the pot for the double.
In the 846th episode of the PokerNews Podcast, Chad Holloway and Kyna England are joined at Level 9 Studio by PokerNews Pennsylvania Ambassador Keith Becker, who served as special co-host to talk about the latest happenings at the 2024 World Series of Poker (WSOP).
That included a controversial hand from Day 3 that some viewed as an angle and/or scummy, as well as the wild seven-bet bubble hand on Day 4. What two hands could inspire two big stacks to get 120 big blinds all in preflop on the money bubble? Find out here. The trio also take a look at the WSOP Main Event payouts and how they compare to past years, which former Main Event champs lasted the longest, and how both Mo Nuwwarah and Josh Reichard took pre-tournament misfortune and used it as motivation to make a deep run into Day 5.
Chad also shares why he was inspired to turn extra links from his WSOP gold bracelet into a pair of gold earrings, while Keith talks about his life in the Keystone State, which includes a successful Twitch stream. As a matter of fact, he even streamed from the recently completed Global Poker x PokerNews Cup, which crowned a pair of Freeroll Finale Champions.
Finally, hear about recent WSOP gold bracelet winners including Garth Yettick, Carsten Heidemann, Matthew Alsante, and Chance Kornuth, who took down Event #85: $1,000 Flip & Go for his fourth gold bracelet. Action was caught on the river with the board 10♣7♦2♥6♥3♥. Long Tran bet 400,000 into a pot of just under 900,000. Patrik Jaros, who was in the big blind, thought for a moment and then called.
Tran turned over Q♥9♠8♦7♥ for the turned straight and the rivered queen high flush and Jaros mucked.
On a heads-up completed board of 4♠Q♥K♣2♥J♥, the pot had around 250,000 in it when Michael Maddocks checked over to Virgile Latifou who bet 125,000.
Maddocks then check-raised to 400,000, enough to cover Latifou, who then went into the tank.
After several minutes, he finally made the call for his tournament life, but was then shown A♥10♣5♥2♠ by Maddocks for the nut flush.
Latifou then let out a deep sigh and flipped over A♣K♥7♥6♣ for the second nut flush and he headed to the payout desk while his chips were pushed over to Maddocks.
