In what was intended to be a conversation about a slew of near misses over his career, Michael Rocco flipped the script when he revealed that the 2024 World Series of Poker (WSOP) would be his last full series for many years.
And the reason why he'll be reducing his volume at the tables may come as a bit of a shock.
During a break in Event #94: $10,000 6-Handed No-Limit Hold'em Championship, he told PokerNews that he has acquired a farm in the last year, and intends to shift his focus to that venture over his card-playing exploits.
On the first of two big pots, Justin Zaki was on the button and three-bet an open from Brett Murray in the hijack. Murray four-bet all in for around 3,000,00 chips and Zaki called.
Brett Murray: A♥K♦
Justin Zaki: A♦A♣
Aces held on 9♥10♦8♦9♠4♦ to knockout Murray and send a big pot Zaki’s way.
The very next hand, Zaki raised from the cutoff and faced an almost-all-in from Frank Lin in the small blind. Lin made it 1,815,000 and when action came back to Zaki, he called and flipped over 2♦2♠, unaware that Lin still has a 100,000 chip behind.
The dealer dealt out 10♥3♦8♦ and Lin took his time to try to catch the payout jump. Zaki asked Lin to tell him who was ahead, but Lin refused, jokingly pointing to the remaining chip he was playing for. After the clock ran out, he checked and Zaki put him all in. The waiting game repeated and after the clock ran out the second time, Lin called, flipping over K♥Q♠.
The turn and river were J♠ and 5♥, no help to Lin and he was out.

While the World Series of Poker (WSOP) Main Event final table is underway, there is another final table steps away inside the Horseshoe Events Center that will be of interest to poker fans.
The $25,000 High Roller H.O.R.S.E. event is down to just nine players, two of whom have a chance to make some history. Phil Ivey is attempting to win his 12th WSOP bracelet, while Scott Seiver is hoping to become the first player in history to win four bracelets in one year, and also lock up WSOP Player of the Year.
Day 3 of the high stakes mixed game tournament has already been quite intense, with the elimination of Matt Glantz in 10th place out of 120 entrants, and the leaderboard changing drastically from the start an hour into the session. At the time of publishing, Seiver's stack had significantly increased since play began, while Ivey's chip count hadn't moved much.
Ilija Savevski opened 400,000 under the gun and Michael McNeil jammed for 2,900,000 on the button. Mike Allis was in the small blind and called off his last 725,000, and Savevski made the call.
Mike Allis: 9♥7♥
Michael McNeil: A♠J♦
Ilija Savevski: A♥Q♦
Allis confidently yelled, "I'm going to win this!"
But, unfortunately for him the 6♣4♥2♦3♣8♥ runout meant Savevski eliminated both him and McNeil from the tournament.

Yilong Wang opened from the button and Christopher Herrin defended the big blind.
The players saw a 6♣J♥4♣ flop and Herrin check-raised to 800,000 after Wang bet out 300,000 getting a fold from Wang.

All of the chips went in the middle before the flop, and Ben Levy was at risk for 1,560,000 in the cutoff against Mike Allis in the big blind.
Ben Levy: A♠7♣
Mike Allis: A♣J♠
Levy was dominated but the Q♣10♦5♥7♥2♠ runout gave Levy a pair of sevens to double through Allis.

Yongkyun Kim on the button moved all-in with his very small stack and faced Nan Hong in the small blind and Adam Levine in the big blind.
On a flop of 7♦4♠A♠, Hong bet 200,000 and he was called by Levine. But after Hong jammed for 820,000 on the Q♣ turn, Levine folded.
Yongkyun Kim: A♦K♦
Nan Hong: 7♠5♠
Kim remained in the lead on the 4♦ river and scooped the pot.
On the next hand, Hong jammed for 1,580,000 from the button, and Levine called.
Nan Hong: K♦9♥
Adam Levine: A♠J♦
Levine hit two pair on 2♣5♣Q♣A♦J♥ and eliminated Hong.

Clark Kokich jammed in early position and the action folded around to Brett Murray in the big blind. He asked for a count, and once the dealer told him it was 885,000, he made the call.
Clark Kokich: A♦6♦
Brett Murray: K♥7♥
The K♦Q♦6♣ flop connected with both players, giving Murray a pair of kings while Kokich flopped bottom pair and a flush draw. The J♠ turn gave Kokich some extra outs but the 9♥ river was not one of them.
