Event #17: $2,000 No-Limit Holdem
Day 1 Started
Welcome back to PokerNews, the official media partner of the 2025 World Series of Poker and home of live updates from all bracelet events.
At noon today, the first of three days of poker action begins in Event #17: $2,000 No-Limit Hold'em. The Horseshoe and Paris Las Vegas are gearing up to welcome upwards of 1,500 entrants, if last year is anything to go by. Day 1 starts at 12 p.m. local time and sees entrants enter the mix armed with a 30,000 starting stack. Should they dust off those chips before the end of the ninth level (~7:55 p.m.), they are permitted to purchase one reentry.
The levels on Day 1 last 40 minutes, and the plan is to complete 15 of them on the first day. Players will enjoy 20-minute breaks every three levels, then a well-deserved 75-minute dinner break once the ninth level is done and dusted, which will be at approximately 6:40 p.m.
Surviving players return to their seats at 12 p.m. on Wednesday, June 4, to play another 10 levels. Those levels span 60 minutes on Day 2 and Day 3. Day 2 is scheduled to have 15-minute breaks every two levels and a 60-minute dinner break after Level 21. Day 3's start time is yet to be confirmed.
Last year, Longshoreman Jared Kingery reeled in the largest score of his career and his first WSOP bracelet. Kingery came out on top of a 1,561-strong field to capture $410,359 of the $2,778,580 prize pool. Kingery's impressive win was made sweeter by him defeating seasoned Spanish pro Javier Gomez heads up for the title.
Kingery, who finished second in the $500 Housewarming Event at the 2022 WSOP for $433,255, put his more than $800,000 in WSOP winnings down to good luck.
"I’m definitely not a professional player; I’m actually a longshoreman back in Washington, so I don’t play that much," said Kingery. "That Housewarming score was my first WSOP tournament ever. I was just sun-running."

Action was picked up with Jason Fisher all-in and at risk from under the gun, his opponent was Tulasi Chenchala.

The dealer ran out a board of Q♦3♠6♠5♠8♠, giving Fisher the flush and a much-needed double-up after losing a significant portion of his stack early.

World Series of Poker announcer Jeff Platt was seen with all his chips in the middle at Table 260, with a board reading 3♣J♣9♦8♦J♠. Maxime Chilaud had bet 3,500 on the river before Platt went all in for approximately 25,000. After taking some time to consider his options, Chilaud decided that folding was the correct choice.
This is Platt's first opportunity to play this summer, and he hopes to add a bracelet to his resume while proving that he can play poker just as well as he announces it.

Many poker players have their rituals and superstitions, and for Blair Hinkle, food sometimes plays a role in his routine. If he runs well after eating a particular meal, he’ll often stick with it until the luck runs out. This year, it was the meat lovers' omelet at Alexxa's in Paris that powered him to victory.
Hinkle captured the title in this very event in 2008. While it’s his aggressive and confident style of play that truly fuels his success, even the best players don’t mind having a lucky charm or two.
After this tournament, Hinkle will be heading home for a short break before returning to play in two of his favorite World Series of Poker events: the Millionaire Maker and the Monster Stack. And if history—and omelets—are any indicator, we haven’t seen the last of him this summer.
A look through his Hendon Mob profile reveals a long list of first-place finishes, and with this latest win, Hinkle has proven once again that he's a force to be reckoned with at the WSOP.
