Welcome back to PokerNews, the official media partner of the 2025 World Series of Poker and home of live updates from all bracelet events.

Can you believe that the 2025 WSOP is almost one-third of the way done? Time flies when you're having fun. There will be plenty of fun today in Event #28: $600 Mixed No-Limit Hold'em & Pot-Limit Omaha Deepstack (Eight Handed), which gets underway at 10:00 a.m. local time. Despite the fact that around 3,000 entrants are expected at the Horseshoe and Paris Las Vegas, this is only a two-day event.

Blind levels are 30 minutes long, and Day 1 sees 22 of them played. Don't worry about burnout because there are 20-minute breaks every four levels, plus a 75-minute dinner break after Level 16 (~7:00 p.m.). Late registration remains open for 12 levels, closing around 5:00 p.m.

Anyone who bags up at the close of play must return to the venue from 11:00 a.m. local time on June 9.

Alen Bakovic of Canada is this event's reigning champion. At the 2024 WSOP, a record-breaking 3,351 players bought in and created a $1,709,010 prize pool. The talkative Bakovic claimed $207,064 of that sum and a gold WSOP bracelet to keep his circuit ring company.

A loud rail supported Bakovic throughout the final table, and he attributed having friends in his corner for being able to remain cool under pressure.

"These guys made it easy for me," said Bakovic, referring to his rail who cheered him on to victory. "I remember thinking, why am I so calm? And I knew it was because of them."

No-Limit Hold'em

The players are not taking their time and taking things slowly. Some big pots have been brewing just 15 minutes into the first level of the day.

One notable hand that was picked up saw the flop read 243 and Achilleas Achilleous bet out for 1,000 from the big blind and was called by Jason Ryan in the small blind, who had checked the flop.

The turn brought the 8, and Ryan checked again, this time Achilleous bet out for 3,000, and Ryan called. The J came on the river, and again Ryan checked. Now Achilleous pushed out a hefty 10,000 bet, Ryan thought for a while before he folded, and the pot was pushed to Achilleous.

Level 1 : Blinds 100/100, 100 ante

No-Limit Hold'em

Action picked up on the turn in a hand between Caleb King in the cutoff, Waleed Belleh in the small blind, and Joselito Bugayong in the big blind.

With about 17,000 in the middle and the board reading 84105, Belleh checked, Bugayong bet 6,000, King called, as did Belleh.

"Make it black," said Bugayong before the dealer put out the 8 river.

It checked to Bugayong who fired out a bet of 10,500, resulting in folds from both of his opponents.

"Nice river," commented Bugayong as he dragged in the pot.

Pot-Limit Omaha

On a flop of 3Q106 Michael Meza bet out for 1,600, only for Gabriel Fuller to raise to 6,000.

Meza then announced 'pot' and Fuller announced 'all in'. Meza snap called.

Meza had flopped top set, and Fuller needed to catch a king, ace, nine, or club to stay alive. No such joy when the 2 came on the river and Fuller was sent packing whilst the early massive pot was pushed to Meza.

Prill Flops a Straight

Level 2 : 100/200, 200 ante

Action picked up on the turn in a hand between Michael Prill in the small blind and Gerald Storseth on the button.

With 24,200 in the pot and the board reading 958K, Prill moved all in to put Storseth at risk, who made the call for his last 13,000 or so.

Michael Prill: J1076

Prill had flopped the straight but Storseth still had outs to a higher straight as well as a flush draw. The river Xx was a brick and Storseth was sent to the rail.
