Life Outside Poker is a podcast for PokerNews hosted by Connor Richards that seeks to pull back the curtain on poker players and allow viewers and listeners to get to know them on a personal level.
In the 25th episode, Connor speaks with embattled poker pro Brad Booth about learning poker from his grandfather, climbing up stakes in Canada, living at the Bellagio and playing in Bobby's Room, bluffing Phil Ivey and getting cheated on Ultimate Bet.
Booth, who the poker community hasn't heard from for several years, opened up about his absence and going missing in 2020, as well as his gambling addiction and various poker debts to players like Doug Polk that he says he plans to make right.
"I got caught up in all of it and all I can try and do is make right now," he told PokerNews of his poker debts.
Joe Ford raised from the cutoff and made the call after Gregory Wood three-bet on the button. Ford checked the 4♠10♦7♦ flop, with Wood firing out a bet.
The call was made and the 9♣ turn hit the felt. Another check from Ford was met with a bet from Wood, with a call leading to the 2♣ river.
Ford led out with a bet and Wood tossed in the call. Ford showed A♦J♣7♥3♣ for the nut low and a pair of sevens, while Wood tabled A♠8♦3♠2♦ for the same low.
"Nice river," Wood said as Ford raked in three quarters of the pot.
Darren Taylor raised from under the gun and made the call after Joe Ford announced a three-bet in the cutoff.
Taylor checked the A♥3♠J♠ flop and Ford slid out a bet. The call was made and the dealer revealed the 9♥ turn. Another check from Taylor was followed by a bet from Ford.
The call was made and Taylor checked once more on the 3♣ river. Ford checked back and tabled A♦J♥6♠2♠ for two pair, good enough to take down the pot as Taylor mucked.
Melvin McCraney called on the button and Joe Ford called in the small blind. Patrick Stacey raised in the big blind which prompted McCraney to move all in for less and Ford called.
Ford bet the flop of 10♥7♣7♥ which saw Stacey fold his hand and both McCraney and Ford tabled their hands.
Melvin McCraney: K♠J♣J♠5♥
Joe Ford: 9♠8♥7♠5♦
The runout of 8♠5♠ further improved Ford to a full house, locking the pot up for himself while start of day chip leader McCraney was eliminated from the tournament.
Melvin McCraney limped in from under the gun before Joe Ford raised on his left. Ilia Krupin made the call in the big blind and McCraney tossed in the calling chips.
Krupin checked the K♣3♠4♣ flop and McCraney fired a bet. Ford and Krupin both called to see the 5♦ turn.
McCraney slowed down with a check before Ford slid out a bet. Krupin quickly folded, while McCraney showed his frustration before letting his hand go.
