Ernest Was Earnest, and Bluffing
Ernest Essad has been rolling all day, building up to a huge mountain of chips. The last bit he gathered from a nasty bluff pulled on Joshua Adcock.
In a hand that bled well into the break, Essad raised preflop. Adcock called. Essad made it 125,000 to go when 3♣Q♦Q♣ flopped. Adcock was again along for the ride.
When the board paired a second time with the 3♥ on the turn, Essad threw 300,000 chips into the pot and again Adcock matched the bet.
When the 10♣ hit on the river, Essad didn't hesitate to move his stack of 500,000 chips into the pot.
Adcoack thought about it for a while, then threw his cards in.
"How good were you?" Adcock asked.
A smiling Essad looked above the rim of his spectacles and showed K♠9♠6♥5♣. The best hand he could make was the his king and nine as kickers for the pair of queens on the board. Ouch.
