Phil Hellmuth shared some juicy news with Daniel Negreanu involving an investment into America's future he helped propose with Senator Ted Cruz (R).
The conversation between the poker legends, recorded on Negreanu's phone, took place on Thursday at the 2025 World Series of Poker (WSOP). Hellmuth is fresh off a third-place finish in Event #47: $2,500 Limit Omaha 8/Stud 8, narrowly missing out on his record-extending 18th bracelet. But on this day, he's talking politics.
Stephen Austin opened shoved for roughly 500,000, James Vallejos called on his direct left for 480,000 and all other players fold.
Stephen Austin: K♦10♦
James Vallejos: K♠K♥
The flop came 10♥8♥Q♦, and Vallejos only needed to fade three outs, but the 10♠ sent him out of his chair, and the Q♥ on the river delivered a brutal knockout blow, ending his tournament run.
In the cutoff, Khaled Aljoma raised to 90,000 and it folded to Jose Boloqui who three-bet for 225,000. Aljoma made the call.
The flop went 2♥A♣K♣ and Boloqui continued for 225,000. Aljoma raised it to 600,000 and after some thoughts, Boloqui pushed all in for 1,730,000. Aljoma, at risk with a lower stack, went deep into the tank and eventually sent his cards into the muck.
Elan Lepovic raised to 90,000 in middle position and Nate Castro three-bet shoved for 540,000 in the hijack to put himself at risk. Lepovic thought for a moment before making the call.
Nate Castro: 8♥8♠
Elan Lepovic: A♠J♥
There were no aces or jacks to be found on the 6♥2♠3♣K♣Q♠ runout and Castro's pair of eights held to earn him the double up.
Roger Mcdow raised from late position to 95,000, David Skillin three-bet all in for 195,000, and John Phan was in the cutoff and four-bet to 320,000. Mcdow immediately moved all in for 1,345,000. Phan tanked for quite a few minutes and was mulling it over extremely hard, but eventually made the fold to save his tournament life and showed ace-king after the cards were revealed.
David Skillin: Q♦J♣
Roger Mcdow: A♠K♦
The board went K♥6♣9♠2♦3♦, and Mcdow won with his pair of kings. Phan regretted his decision, even though it would have been a chopped pot.
Scott Lazar commented jokingly, "You took so long, I'm old enough to make the Super Seniors now".
Heads-up on a flop of 2♥7♣4♣, Zal Irani bet 120,000 from under the gun, Ryan Remmes in the big blind raised all-in for approximately 500,000 and Irani snap-called.
Ryan Remmes: K♣8♣
Zal Irani: A♣A♥
Remmes hit a flush with the J♣, but Irani managed to hit a better flush with the 10♣ river to eliminate Remmes.
Michael Holm raised in middle position and Aviel Rubin made the call before Brett Lim decided to shove in the small blind for 995,000. Holm reshoved with slightly more chips and Rubin quickly folded:
Brett Lim: A♦9♦
Michael Holm: A♠J♣
Holm had good hopes to rake the pot but a board 9♥Q♠7♦3♦3♥ showed up, giving a flopped pair of nines to Lim and left Holm with barely more than one big blind.
