Michael Duek Sets Up Another Deep Run in $5,000 PLO

Level 15 : Blinds 3,000/6,000, 6,000 ante
Michael Duek

Today at the 2025 World Series of Poker, Event #5: $5,000 Pot-Limit Omaha began. This prestigious event brought in 757 entries and created a $3,573,040 prize pool. Each one of the 123 players remaining will be fighting for the first-place prize of $620,696 inside Horseshoe and Paris, Las Vegas.

Matthew Beck (1,320,000) currently leads the field, but there is a plethora of big names and big stacks breathing down his neck. With a total of 87 WSOP bracelets having been won by the players collectively, Beck’s job is far from done.

Second in chips, Michael Duek (1,026,000) played a crucial pot late in the day in which he cracked the aces of Chris Hunichen with kings. Duek is no stranger to star-studded fields; with over $7,500,000 in cashes and a third-place finish in the 2022 WSOP Main Event, he has set himself up for another monumental score in this event.

Currently eighth in chips, Kevin Hyde is competing against the best in the world during his third-ever live tournament. He sailed smoothly through most of the day as the chip leader, but made one misstep against Allan Le late in the day to knock him down the leaderboard seven spots.

While everyone will be hunting for one of the toughest bracelets of the summer and $620,696, the top 114 places will get paid. That means nine players who found a bag will be going home empty-handed. A min-cash is worth $9,960.

Kings Cracked by Bergman

Level 15 : Blinds 3,000/6,000, 6,000 ante

Edward Bergman opened the action from early position by raising to 16,000. Only Gabriel Andrade called from the small blind.

A 965 flop incentivized Andrade to lead out with a bet of 35,000. Bergman quickly stuck his 91,000 chip stack into the middle. Andrade called, and cards were tabled.

Edward Bergman: A998
Gabriel Andrade: KK44

When the 6 peeled off on the turn, Andrade was drawing very slim, and the 7 sealed the deal. Bergman found himself new life as they head into day two.

Duek Cracks Hunichen's Aces

Level 15 : Blinds 3,000/6,000, 6,000 ante
Chris Hunichen
Chris Hunichen

Chris Hunichen got all of his 100,000 chips into the middle preflop, and Michael Duek made the call to try to end his tournament.

Chris Hunichen: AAJ4 All in
Michael Duek: KK76

Hunichen was in great shape with aces versus Duek's kings. However, the dealer put out a flop of 7K9 to put Duek in the lead with top set. The 9 turn improved Duek to a boat and meant only an ace on the river could save Hunichen. The river was the Q and Hunichen was out.

Hyde Runs into Le's Set

Level 14 : Blinds 3,000/5,000, 5,000 ante
Kevin Hyde
Kevin Hyde

Kevin Hyde made it 17,000 from early position with Allan Le calling from the cutoff and Filip Lovric defending out of the big blind.

Lovric knuckled the table on the K92 flop and Hyde put out a continuation-bet of 37,000. Le called, but Lovric folded.

Upon seeing the 8 roll off on the turn, Hyde shoved for Le's remaining stack. Le called for his final 153,000, and the cards were revealed.

Allen Le: QJ99 All in
Kevin Hyde: AK83

Le was ahead with middle set and just needed to fade a king on the river to double-up. The river came the 2 and Le took a huge chunk of chips from Hyde's stack.

Kamel Mokhammad
Kamel Mokhammad

Kamel Mokhammad made it 13,000 to go from the hijack and Julien Sitbon defended out of the big blind.

Sitbon check-called a bet of 17,000 from Mokhammad on the 8J2 flop.

The turn came the 9 and both players checked to see the 8 roll off on the river. Sitbon led out for 17,000, and Mokhammad called. Sitbon showed a boat with J987 to take down the pot.

Monster for Mirrasouli

Level 14 : Blinds 3,000/5,000, 5,000 ante

Amir Mirrasouli limped in from the hijack, Aaron Kupin called as well, Samuel Del Castillo did the same from the button, and Michael Wang raised the price of admission to 24,000. Only Kupin folded his hand.

A flop of 976 was good enough for Mirrasouli to announce pot after Wang knuckled, and sent 84,000 into the middle. Del Castillo called while Wang released.

The ~25,000 chips Mirrasouli had left were in the middle before the 3 turn card could hit the felt, followed by a 2 on the river.

Samuel Del Castillo: Q966
Amir Mirrasouli: QJ108

The flopped straight for Mirrasouli was good for a double-up, and a healthy stack as we get closer to the money cut.

Aces Hold for Rodriguez

Level 13 : Blinds 2,000/4,000, 4,000 ante

Noel Rodriguez opened to 20,000 from early position, was called by Michael Duek in the cutoff, and then action folded to Jack Moore in the big blind who went all-in for 97,000.
Both Rodriguez and Duek called.

A flop of 1052 was bet by Rodriguez to the tune of his remaining 77,000 chips. Duek threw his hand away.

Jack Moore: J987
Pedro Rodriguez: AAQ2

After a 10 turn and a 10 river, Moore found himself going home shortly after entry closed, while Rodriguez scooped up a double-up without ever being at risk.
