Cates Leaves Himself Short

Level 17 : Blinds 20,000/40,000, 40,000 ante

In the final hand of the previous level, Stephen Chidwick raised to 75,000 in early position. Dan Cates called in middle position, and Jason Mercier did so on the button.

The three players checked through the 97J flop before Chidwick bet 75,000 on the 8 turn. Cates called, but Mercier got out of the way.

Chidwick checked the 6 river over to Cates, who bet 250,000, about two-thirds of his stack. Chidwick quickly put in the rest, and Cates made a frustrated fold as he was left with just over three big blinds for the new level.

Biao Ding raised to 100,000 from the cutoff, and only Farid Jattin called from the small blind.

The pair saw a Q47 flop, and action checked through. The 3 saw Jattin lead out for 100,000 and Ding make the call.

Jattin put out a much more substantial bet of 340,000 on the 3 river, and Ding made the immediate call.

Jattin tabled K1095 for the second nut flush, but received the bad news when Ding showed AK109 for the nut flush.

The turn was a flush completing Q, and when Stojanovic checked for a second time, Jouhkimainen bet again, this time for 95,000. Again, Stojanovic called.

The dealer revealed the Q river card, and Stojanovic opted to check for a third time. Jouhkimainen wasn't done with the betting, though, sliding out a substantial bet of 340,000.

Stojanovic took a moment before returning his cards to the dealer.
