Whyte Eliminates Alexander

Level 9 : Blinds 600/1,200, 1,200 ante

Gregory Alexander went all in for his last few thousand chips and it looked like it might get through before Lawrence Whyte called in the big blind.

Gregory Alexander: 63 All in
Lawrence Whyte: AK

The flop fanned out J104, keeping Whyte in the lead but the 5 on the turn offered a glimmer of hope to Alexander as he improved to the open-ended straight draw.

It was short-lived as the 10 closed the door on Alexander and he quickly left the tournament area.

The Ladies Love Kurtzman; Boat Sinks for Poole

Level 9 : Blinds 600/1,200, 1,200 ante

Dennis Poole and Eben Kurtzman got all their chips in the middle preflop and were set to run out five cards.

Dennis Poole: JJ All in
Eben Kurtzman: QQ

The flop caused a collective "Ohhhh!" from the table as the JQ7 hit the felt with both players flopping a set.

A louder "Ohhhh!!" was released from the table as the 9 gave Poole some much-needed flush outs.

The dealer paused an instant, creating tension before the very dramatic Q completed the board and the general uproar of the table continued.

"Let me know when I'm going to make quads so I know not to isolate!" Kurtzman said as he collected the pot and sent Poole on his way.

Wrong Diamond for Athanasoulis; Clarke Chips Up

Level 10 : Blinds 800/1,600, 1,600 ante

Peter Athanasoulis was all in preflop and he made mention he didn't want to come back for Day 2 with only ten big blinds. Keith Clarke had him at risk.

Peter Athanasoulis: KQ All in
Keith Clarke: AJ

"I guess I need a ten..." Athanasoulis said as the dealer presented A2J.

"Or a diamond!", said one of the other players at the table while the 6 fell.

For a moment, Athanasoulis celebrated the A before it was pointed out to him that Clarke had made a full house. Clarke collected the pot and Athanasoulis was one of those dispatched just before the end of day.
