Javier Francort Leads After Day 1 of $10,000 Pot-Limit Omaha Championship

Level 10 : Blinds 1,000/2,000, 2,000 ante
Javier Francort

After ten levels of four-card action, just 294 players remain in Event #74: $10,000 Pot-Limit Omaha Championship at the 2025 World Series of Poker inside the Horseshoe and Paris, Las Vegas. The Day 1 field of 793 has been trimmed by over half, and the survivors will return on Sunday, June 29, at 1 p.m. for Day 2 of this four-day affair.

Topping the chip counts is the Netherlands’ Javier Francort with a stack of 556,500, making him the only player to have breached the half-a-million mark. Ben Lamb sits second on the leaderboard with 484,500, while Brandon Crawford rounds out the podium with 455,500 heading into Day 2.

Another player to bag a top ten stack is Germany’s Dennis Weiss, who finished with 395,000, good for 158 big blinds heading into Day 2. Weiss has enjoyed a fantastic 2025 WSOP, reaching two final tables. Most recently, he took down the $25,000 Pot-Limit Omaha event, securing his second bracelet of the year and a career-best score of $2,292,155. Some of his chips came in the final level of the night when his kings sent Richard Lee to the rail.

With this being one of the pinnacle championship events of the series, a host of notables have maneuvered their way into Day 2. Among them are five-time bracelet winner Robert Mizrachi (377,000), Alex Foxen (367,000), Scott Bohlman (361,000), fresh off his runner-up finish in the $3,000 Limit Hold’em, Richard Gryko (309,500), and two-time bracelet winner Stephen Chidwick (226,500), whose set of jacks held up earlier in the day to eliminate two opponents.

Some players making it through near the bottom of the pack, with the most work to do, include Dario Alioto (89,500), Matt Glantz (77,500), Maxx Coleman (70,500), Christian Harder (49,000), two-time bracelet winner Alex Livingston (49,000), and Bryce Yockey (36,500).

As this event is a freezeout, some notable players who were eliminated and won't be returning to the baize include Martin Zamani, Santosh Suvarna, David Coleman, Sean Winter, and Daniel Negreanu, who misread his hand. A few bracelet winners to hit the rail today were Sean Troha, Lou Garza, Tyler Brown, and Bruno Furth, who busted early in the day in a flush over flush situation.

Day 2 kicks off at 1 p.m. with blinds at 1,500/2,500 with a 2,500 big blind ante. Late registration will remain open until the start of Level 13, giving new players a final opportunity to join before registration closes at approximately 3:15 p.m. The plan for Day 2 is to play through another ten levels before the survivors return for the penultimate day of play on Monday.

The cards were already flipped over by the time the live reporting team arrived and Richard Lee was at risk against Dennis Weiss. By the time the board showed Q927 on the turn, both players had straight draws but Weiss also held an overpair as well as a flush draw to be firm favourite.

Nobody is Having a Better Time than Matusow

Level 10 : Blinds 1,000/2,000, 2,000 ante
Mike Matusow
Mike Matusow

There was some loud laughter coming from the corner of the room but it was all from the same person, Mike Matusow. Rolling around in laughter, Matusow was having the time of his life while the other seven players were either miserable, annoyed, or trying to focus on some poker.

"Have you ever laughed so hard, that you just can't stop laughing?" Matusow asked. "I don't even know why I'm laughing. I think it's because I'm in this shitty place. I don't know why I keep torturing myself."

There was also a hand taking place where three players went to a flop of 1083. The action was checked to Jonathan Depa who bet 7,000 on the button. Charles Sylvestre called from the big blind and Ruslan Nazarenko came along as well.

The turn brought the 6 and it checked to Depa again who pushed all in for 38,000. Sylvestre folded and Nazarenko's cards quickly followed into the muck.

Another laughing fit broke out from Matusow at the end of the hand. "Nobody is having a better time than me, with less chips."

Chidwick Showers Two Opponents

Level 9 : Blinds 1,000/1,500, 1,500 ante
Stephen Chidwick

Eddie Ochana jammed for his last 6,000 from the small blind on a flop of J6A. Stephen Chidwick called from the big blind before Eemil Tuominen raised the pot to 47,500. Chidwick thought for a while, and then jammed to put Tuominen all in for his remaining 40,000. Tuominen called.

Eddie Ochana: A1082 All in

Chidwick had a set, Ochana just had top pair, while Tuominen had straight and flush possibilities. The 9 gave Ochana some extra outs, but the K river was clean for Chidwick's set. Chidwick sent two players home and added a lot of chips to his stack.

Kornuth is Playing the Game

Level 9 : Blinds 1,000/1,500, 1,500 ante
Chance Kornuth
Chance Kornuth

Chance Kornuth and Nacho Barbero were heads-up on a flop of K109 and Barbero tossed in a bet of 10,000. Kornuth check-raised all in for 39,500 and Barbero went into the tank.

"I'm gonna randomize," Barbero said as he looked at the time. Kornuth tried to ask a couple of questions but Barbero just mulled it over for another few seconds before throwing his cards away.

"Now we're playing the game, Nacho!" Kornuth exerted as he rolled over AKJ4 for just a pair of kings. "Now we're playing the game!"

"Ya, you're playing the f***ing game," Barbero replied sarcastically as he rolled his eyes

Le Eliminated by Barbero

Level 9 : Blinds 1,000/1,500, 1,500 ante

Tommy Le got his shorter stack into the middle on the flop of J95 and was called by Nacho Barbero with the covering stack.

Tommy Le: KK74 All in
Nacho Barbero: KQJ6

While being ahead with his overpair, Le had to dodge a lot of outs as Barbero had a pair, flush draw and gutshot. Nothing changed on the A turn just yet but the 10 river gave Barbero broadway. Le has won this Championship Event two times already but won't be adding a third title in 2025, while his brother Allan Le has an above-average stack in the penultimate level of the night.

Bucky's No Bueno

Level 8 : Blinds 600/1,200, 1,200 ante
Matthew Wantman
Matthew Wantman

While a big hand was playing out at his table, Jason Mercier took a stroll around the room and stumbled upon Table 87 which included Toby Lewis, Matthew "Bucky" Wantman, and Michael Duek sitting beside each other.

"Wow, look at this table," Mercier said, engaging with them. Wantman noted that Duek's humming and whistling was starting to bother him. "Do you guys have beef?"

"We're about to!" Wantman joked.

"Take it up on the pickleball court," Mercier suggested.

"I would love to!" Duek chimed in.

"Ya, you would win, Bucky's no bueno," Mercier referred to Wantman.

Mercier returned to his seat and the cards were back in the air as usual.

Seidel Scores Big Double Through Covington

Level 8 : Blinds 600/1,200, 1,200 ante
Erik Seidel
Erik Seidel

The action started with a raise to 3,000 by Colby Covington and Erik Seidel flat-called. Mark Zajdner three-bet the pot to 14,800 on the button and Covington called. Seidel in the cutoff then reraised the pot to just shy of 60,000 for two thirds of his stack. That got rid of Zajdner while Covington called and checked the 542 flop. Seidel pushed all-in and Covington called.

Erik Seidel: AAQ4 All in
Colby Covington: KK88

The A turn improved Seidel to an unbeatable set of aces, which he had needed as the 8 river gave Covington the now inferior set of eights.

Pot-Limit Razz Champion from Estonia Finds a Way

Level 8 : Blinds 600/1,200, 1,200 ante
Blaz Zerjav
Blaz Zerjav

After arriving at the table, Blaz Zerjav and Ryan Coon somehow got all of their chips into the middle preflop and their hands were face up on the felt.

Ryan Coon: AKQ3All in
Blaz Zerjav: A764

It appeared that one player was trying to show Zerjav his potential outs, until the flop came Q97. "Oh that's all him," he pointed out after Coon flopped a pair with the lone flush draw.

The J on the turn changed nothing but it was the 4 on the river that gave Zerjav a baby two pair and Coon was bounced from the tournament.

"The pot-limit razz champion from Estonia," Scott Bohlman pointed to Zerjav's holding. Zerjav already has two WSOP bracelets under his belt this summer, neither coming in the PLO or razz variants; however, he did win a $200 pot-limit razz title in Estonia back in February for a whopping $3,300.
