Thorpe Goes For the Double Knockout

Level 13
Mike Thorpe
Mike Thorpe

No-Limit 2-7 Single Draw

Tom McCormick was at another table and telling a story of when he was arrested. "Crazy Mike, what is the most consecutive hours you've spent in jail?" McCormick shouted out to Mike Thorpe.

"I've never been in jail, but I have been on a brig," Thorpe replied, regaling his tablemates with his experience serving on a naval destroyer.

Thorpe then invited Mark Liedtke to join him in his regular cash games. "We play in Bobby's Room, Table 1 at the Bellagio. You're more than welcome to join us. You've lost every hand and you're nice, so you check all the boxes," Thorpe said.

Daniel Hirleman then raised to 6,500 in the cutoff and Justin Marsh reraised to 16,000 in the small blind. Thorpe was in the big blind and asked each opponent how much they had left. "This could be a double knockout," Thorpe said, slamming in a tower of chips as Hirleman called for 8,000 and Marsh stuck in his last 20,000.

All three players drew one as Marsh ended up with 9x7x4x3x2x. Hirleman had 9x6x5x4x while waiting for his last card, while Thorpe showed 8x7x5x2x and peeled his last card.

"What do I need?" he asked the dealer.

"Small card," the dealer replied.

"Oh, it is a four," Thorpe said, making an 8-7. Hirleman couldn't improve and Thorpe sent both players to the rail. "That's a double fatality," Thorpe concluded.
