This is Lai's Moment

Level 7 : Blinds 500/1,000, 1,000 ante

"Yes!" someone shouted in the Bronze section of the Horseshoe Events Center. After arriving at Table 603, it was Jun Lai who had his hands in the air with all of his chips in the middle. However, the hand wasn't finished and his opponent, Michael Thompson, was still drawing live.

The board read A96J and Lai was indeed ahead with AJ for two pair but Thompson held AK for a possible better two pair along with a flush draw. Lai was out of his seat already when the 7 completed the board.

"Yes!" Lai shouted again. "This is my moment!"

"Nice hand," Thompson acknowledged despite being dwindled down to just over 10 big blinds.

Youngster Chipping Up

Level 7 : Blinds 500/1,000, 1,000 ante

Garry Gurevich, one of the youngest players in the field, has more than doubled his chip stack in one and a half levels of play on Day 2.

Gurevich, who turned 21 three months ago, picked up a huge double-up when he made a straight against Roberto Saenz' overpair.

Arieh Makes the Correct Call to Leave Audoli Short

Level 7 : Blinds 500/1,000, 1,000 ante
Josh Arieh
Josh Arieh

Heads-up on a board of J975 with approximately 20,000 already in the middle, Baptiste Audoli bet 16,000 from the big blind and Josh Arieh called from the hijack after a bit of thought.

The Q filled the river and Audoli fired 45,000 into the middle — sending Arieh deep into the tank.

Arieh asked the dealer to spread the pot and he counted out his own stack, clearly struggling with the decision.

After a couple of minutes, Arieh stuck in a call and Audoli could only turn over 104 for a bluff.

Arieh revealed A9 for a pair of nines and was awarded the pot.

"You're sick," Kornuth said to Arieh from across the table.

McIlvain Holds to Eliminate Haynes

Level 7 : Blinds 500/1,000, 1,000 ante

Jason Somerville kicked the action off by limping in from middle position. Matthew Haynes responded from the cutoff by moving all in for 15,100. Action then folded to Andrew McIlvain in the small blind, who called, before Somerville got out of the way.

Matthew Haynes: A7 All in
Andrew McIlvain: 1010

There wasn't much help on the flop for Haynes, short of a backdoor flush draw when the dealer spread J102.

That door slammed shut when the 2 turn guaranteed Haynes' elimination from the event before the dealer had even flipped over the Q river.

Su Beats Wang

Level 7 : Blinds 500/1,000, 1,000 ante

Timothy Su opened to 2,200 from the hijack and in the big blind Nicholas Wang called.

The flop rolled out 1093 and Wang check-called a bet of 1,900 from Su.

On the turn A, Wang checked a second time over to Su who bet 4,000 and Wang called.

Both players checked the river 9 to see Wang turn over 44 for nines up. It was no good against Su who turned over Q10 for tens up and the 8th place finisher from the 2019 WSOP Main Event took down the pot.

Baron Puts Two in the Tank

Level 7 : Blinds 500/1,000, 1,000 ante

Parminder Kumar raised it up from the hijack and was called by Randall Emmett on his left and Isaac Baron in the big blind. The flop came A96 and the action checked to Emmett who bet 2,500. Both Baron and Kumar called to see the 8 on the turn.

Baron led out with a bet of 7,500 and picked up calls from Kumar and Emmett. The river was the Q and Baron fired out another bet of 10,000. Kumar thought for nearly two minutes before opting to fold and Emmett took even longer before his cards also hit the muck.
