Naranja Runs Into a Monster

Damon Fine raised to 24,000 in early position before Agustin Naranja three-bet to 75,000 in the cutoff. Fine then four-bet to 180,000, Naranja moved all in for 320,000, and Fine snap-called.

Fine had woken up with aces to leave Naranja at risk of elimination, but the K♦4♦10♥ flop gave Naranja some outs with a pair. The turn was the 4♥, while no miracles arrived for Naranja on the 10♦ river and he was sent to the rail.

Mutsuura’s Pressure Pays Off, Clock Runs Out on Lopes

With the board reading A♥9♥6♥A♦8♦ and roughly 500,000 in the middle, Douglas Lopes checked from middle position to Yuta Mutsuura in the hijack. Mutsuura reached for chips and slid out a hefty bet of 500,000, putting Lopes in a brutal spot with just 603,000 behind.

Faced with a near all-in decision, Lopes sank deep into the tank. After a long pause, a player eventually called the clock. The floor arrived and gave Lopes 30 seconds to act, but before he could make up his mind, his hand was declared dead as the time ran out.

As Lopes released his cards, the table erupted in chatter. All eyes were on Mutsuura, who initially went to muck but was influenced by the buzz from the table and turned over the K♥, teasing a range of potential holdings.

One player chimed in, “I folded nine-six,” adding another twist to the hand and leaving Lopes with plenty to contemplate.

Ishibashi Smashes the River to Bust Two

Jack Corrigan moved all in for around 200,000 from the cutoff, Giorgos Onisiforou put in his last 217,000 from the big blind, and Dai Ishibashi put both opponents at risk in middle position.

Onisiforou was ahead with his aces going to the flop, which came 8♣5♠6♠ to give Corrigan some hope with a straight draw. The 6♦ turn was safe for Onisiforou and left him poised to scoop the entire pot, but Ishibashi spiked the J♣ on the river to make a full house and earn the double knockout.

Alex Lynskey opened to 26,000 from the hijack and received calls from Vikas Sondhi in the cutoff, Luke Chung on the button and Jeff Gross in the big blind.

The flop came J♠5♣J♥. Gross checked, Lynskey checked, Sondhi bet 40,000 and Chung folded 4♠4♦. Gross folded 10♥8♥ before Lynskey called.

Sondhi continued for 110,000 when checked to on the 2♥ turn and Lynskey called again. On the 8♣ river Lynskey checked, Sondhi shoved with his remaining st ack of 352,000 and Lynskey called.

Sondhi had trips with K♦J♣ but Lynskey had J♦5♦ for jacks full of fives to take down a colossal pot, eliminating Sondhi and surpassing two million chips in the process.

Two Round Penalty, Main Event Drama

Drama ensued on Table 513 of the Main Event.

The action began when Ibrahim Senoussi put in a raise of 25,000. Two seats to his left, playing in the hijack, Jeffrey Deegan opted to call before Conor O'Rourke, in the cutoff, three-bet to 115,000.

The action returned to Senoussi, who went deep into the tank. Minutes passed by, and Senoussi seemed no closer to a decision, causing one of his tablemates to call the clock.

The floor was called. As the tournament officials made their way across the room to adjudicate the situation, Senoussi unlocked his phone and started using his calculator to calculate numbers concerning the pot.

Josh Arieh, also at the table, advised Senoussi he was not allowed to do that in the middle of the hand, which caused some tension.

The floor arrived and instructed the players to play out the hand before the situation was handled.

Action back on Senoussi, clock ticking down, he chose to four-bet all in. This received two quick folds from his opponents, and the poker hand was finished.

Senoussi immediately received a one-round penalty for using his phone during a hand. In an apparent misunderstanding due to a language barrier, Senoussi didn't realise he had been penalised. The official made it clearer, which caused some back and forth between the Frenchman and Arieh; his punishment was then increased to a two-round penalty.

An unhappy Senoussi was walked out of the tournament area, and the table continued to play.

The dealer spread out a flop of 8♦9♠3♣ and McDougall checked. Fan put out a continuation-bet of around 40,000, and McDougall called.

The dealer burned a card, then produced the 2♦ on the turn. McDougall checked for a second time, but then folded after Fan bet 200,000.

Hiroki Nawa then three-bet jammed for 309,000 from the small blind. Roman mucked his cards, and Kyriakides sent his cards into the muck as well. King quickly called, however, and the cards were tabled.

Kenny Hallaert opened to 25,000 in middle position and Eric Afriat just called in the small blind. They went heads-up to a flop of Q♥5♠4♥ and Afriat check-called a bet of 20,000 from Hallaert.

The turn brought the A♣ and Afriat check-called another bet of 30,000. The 5♦ paired the board on the river and both players tapped the table. Afriat rolled over A♦K♠ which got a reaction from the table only to have Hallert flash his K♥K♦.

"How are you in this tournament?" Milan Patel asked after the hand. "Where's the rest of the pot? Eric, he's still in the tournament?!"
