Verdugo Told Them So

Level 17 : Blinds 5,000/10,000, 10,000 ante

Thien Tran opened to 23,000 under the gun and got the man immediately to his left, Kaiwen Chen to call. Action folded to the big blind and Nicholas Verdugo shoved all-in for 47,000. Both Tran and Chen flat called, prompting Verdugo to say, "Good luck, boys. You'll need it."

The board ran 1078JK with Tran and Chen checking it down.

Verdugo tabled 77 for a set on the flop while Tran showed AJ. Chen mucked his hand. The dealer pushed the pot towards Verdugo for a triple up and as he was fixing his stack, he couldn't help but say, "I told you so."

WSOP
WSOP

In poker, like in life, they say records are meant to be broken.

But sometimes, someone sets a milestone that just feels impossible to top. Whether it’s because of insane skill, perfect timing, a bit of luck, or a mix of all three, the World Series of Poker has seen some feats over the years that seem like they’ll never be matched.

However, while all records may eventually fall, these achievements are currently some of the most jaw-dropping in WSOP history. Will any of them ever be broken? Only time will tell. For now, though, here are the most incredible WSOP records that will (probably) never be broken.

"The Rich Get Richer"; Shaw Has Perfect Timing to Bust Two

Level 18 : Blinds 6,000/12,000, 12,000 ante
Carl Shaw
Carl Shaw

Carl Shaw raised to 28,000 in early position before Eric Worre moved all in for 260,000 in the hijack. Fernando Gutierrez also shoved for his last 190,000 in the cutoff as action went back on Shaw who snap-called.

Fernando Gutierrez: JJ All in
Eric Worre: 77 All in
Carl Shaw: AA

"Good timing," a tablemate told Shaw, who turned over two aces to leave both opponents in desperate need of help to stay alive.

"Any seven will do," Worre said, standing up from his seat filming the action as the flop came 633. The turn was the Q and Worre repeated his pleas for a lucky seven, but no helped arrived on the 5 river and Shaw scored the double knockout.

"The rich get richer," another tablemate added.
