Mike Matusow
Mike Matusow

After an action-packed Day 1 in Event #94: $10,000 No-Limit Hold’em 6-Handed Championship, 179 players will return to the Horseshoe and Paris Las Vegas at 1 p.m. for Day 2 here at the 2025 World Series of Poker. The event has attracted 450 entries so far, and that number will continue to grow as late registration remains open for the first two hours of play today.

Benjamin Chalot leads the field with 552,000 and is most closely followed by four-time bracelet winner Mike Matusow, who ended the night with 430,500. Matusow has had a few deep runs already this series after making the final table of the $10,000 Stud championship and the final two tables of the $5,000 Senior’s High Roller and $50,000 Poker Player’s Championship. Matusow will be looking to top those deep runs with a final table finish in this event.

Gregory Brown
Gregory Brown

The action was joined as Gregory Brown and Fabrice Maltez were competing in the first hand dealt of the day.

Playing a three-bet pot with a flop showing 10J6 and 35,000 already in the middle, Brown placed a bet of 11,000 from the small blind just to be met by an all-in from Fabrice Maltez for 129,000.

After taking some time to consider, Brown opted to call.

Fabrice Maltez: KJ All in
Gregory Brown: AQ

There was no help on the 4 turn for Brown, but the K river improved him to a straight, sending Maltez home on the first hand of the day.

Gary Hasson and Joey Weissman entangled in a pot on the 457 flop. The players got the chips in the middle with Hasson at risk for 51,500.

Gary Hasson: 88All in
Joey Weissman: A2

Hasson held the best hand with an overpair, but Weissman was drawing to a flush as well as an ace.

The J turn was an unwelcome sight for Hasson as it had him drawing dead. The A on the river completed the board as Hasson was eliminated in the opening minutes of Day 2.

Romain Lewis
Romain Lewis

Alexandre Reard opened from the hijack, and Romain Lewis defended from the big blind.

The flop came QK7 and Lewis check-called an 8,000 continuation bet from Reard.

Reard fired a second barrel for 16,000 when checked to on the 8 turn. Lewis shoved for a bit more than 50,000, and Reard called with a covering stack to put him at risk.

Romain Lewis: K2 All in
Alexandre Reard: KJ

Both players had top pair, but Reard was ahead with the better kicker. The 9 river confirmed Lewis' elimination while Reard took the pot.

Wantman Sets the Trap

Level 11 : Blinds 1,000/2,500, 2,500 ante
Matthew Wantman
Matthew Wantman

Yaniv Peretz raised from the cutoff to 5,000, receiving calls from the player on the button and Matthew Wantman in the big blind.

All three players checked on both the 43A flop and the 9 turn.

The dealer then burned and produced the K river, and Wantman checked for a third time. Peretz chose to bet this time, doing so for 5,500. This saw the button player fold, but Wantman opted to check-raise to 24,500.

Peretz took a minute, but chose to call, receiving bad news when Wantman turned over K4 for a rivered two pair. Peretz didn't show his hand, returning it to the dealer face down.

Valentino Konakchiev
Valentino Konakchiev

This hand was picked up on the flop with approximately 30,000 in the middle. Valentino Konakchiev check-raised to 29,000 on the board that read 663. Todd Ivens responded with a three-bet to 49,000. Konakchiev took some time, but ultimately decided on a call.

The 5 turn saw Konakchiev check. Ivens wasted little time as he ripped his stack in for 162,000. Konakchiev went into the tank for a few minutes until the clock was called. Konakchiev mustered up a call as his 30-second timer wound down to go to a showdown at risk for 132,500.

Valentino Konakchiev: 44All in
Todd Ivens: AK

Konakchiev took a stand with his wired fours and was correctly ahead of Ivens.

The 10 river did not change that as Konakchiev secured the double to the dismay of Ivens.

Daniel Negreanu
Daniel Negreanu

This hand was caught on the river of a pot that had over 40,000 in the middle on the board that read 10457Q.

Roman Hrabec went all-in on the river and put Daniel Negreanu to a decision for all his chips. Negreanu stated that he wanted to trust his gut and eventually went with a call to put himself at risk for 79,000.

Negreanu's instincts were correct as Hrabec showed 98 for a missed straight draw. Negreanu tabled 76 for a pair of sevens to take down the pot.

Arends Wins Latest Round

Level 12 : Blinds 1,500/3,000, 3,000 ante
Jans Arends
Jans Arends

Jans Arends and Ren Lin have spent the afternoon battling as if they were playing heads up on their table.

As Arthur Morris joined the table as a late entry, one of the other players let him know that he was getting a front row seat to watch the two compete with each other.

In the latest round, Arends raised on the button to 6,500 and was immediately met by a three-bet to 26,500 from Lin from the small blind. Arends made the call, and the two went to a flop.

The dealer spread the 99A flop, and Lin started with a check. Arends took over the betting lead with a bet of 25,000, and after a minute of consideration, Lin folded.

Old School Vibes

Level 12 : Blinds 1,500/3,000, 3,000 ante
Phil Hellmuth
Phil Hellmuth

Phil Hellmuth and Daniel Negreanu are playing four-handed on the same table currently.

A few hands ago, Hellmuth raised to 7,500 on the button. Negreanu, in the big blind, responded by moving all in, flexing his big stack. It would have been Hellmuth at risk had he called; instead, he folded.

Negreanu courteously showed him that he had 99.

Fast forward three hands, Negreanu put in a raise on the button to 7,000. This time, it was Hellmuth who responded with a three-bet all-in from the big blind. Negreanu inquired about the bet amount, which was confirmed to be 54,000, after which he folded.

Hellmuth returned the favour, flipping over AK, showing Negreanu he had a strong hand.
