Did You Know this About the WSOP Monster Stack?
Our local poker historian, Robert Jen, dove into the WSOP archives and came up with some interesting stats & figures for the WSOP Monster Stack, which we thought would be fun to share with you!
- The $1,500 Monster Stack debuted in 2014 and fielded an impressive 7,862 entries and a still-record $1,327,083 first prize. The event has returned every year since then except for 2020, so this is the 12th running of the tournament.
- Since an odd low of 3,520, the Monster Stack's growth has been impressive: 6,501 to 8,317 to 8,703 to 9,920 entries and 528 to 976 to 1,248 to 1,307 to 1,488 paid. Last year also had a record $13,148,390 prize pool.
- Over $100 million has been paid out. [$104,586,825]
- The event has minted nine millionaires: Hugo Pingray (2014), Perry Shiao (2015), Mitchell Towner (2016), Brian Yoon (2017), Tommy Nguyen (2018), Kainalu McCue-Unciano (2019), Braxton Dunaway (2023), Pedro Neves (2024), and Klemens Roiter (2025). [9 of the 11 winners]
- Famous runners-up include Joe McKeehen (2014) and Ryan Leng (2021). One other Main Event champ reached the final table — Joe Cada finished 7th in 2023 ($186,149).
- Jessical Teusl became the only female to reach the final table in 2022 (9th for $120,455).
Other festivals have held their own versions of the Monster Stack: WSOP Europe (5), GGPoker (7 general and 2 Ontario), and WSOP.com (16 for various combinations of states). They've all been much smaller events, with the biggest being the 2020 GGPoker $300 (most players at 3,491) and the 2024 GGPoker $1,500 (biggest first prize of $263,720 and biggest prize pool of $2,047,725).
