Gruneberg Shuts it Down on Turn

Level 24 : Blinds 20,000/40,000, 40,000 ante

Zachary Gruneberg opened to 130,000 from early position. Both Ravi Shankar and Bouwe Claushuis called from the small and big blind, respectively.

It checked to Gruneberg on the J37 flop, who continued for 250,000. Shankar called, but Claushuis folded.

The 10 turn led to a check from Shankar. Gruneberg chose to shove for 925,000 in response. Shankar got the count and gave it some thought, but chose to fold as Gruneberg won the pot on the turn.

Miguel Ore Avila raised and was called by Garth Paul, as they headed to the A98 flop. Paul checked and Ore Avila tanked for a bit before he made it 160,000 to go which then forced a snap-fold.

Erick Bissinger raised to 140,000 and Paul called on the button as did Alan Mehamed in the big blind. The K84 flop was checked to Paul who potted for 480,000 to force out both opponents.

Mehamed raised the next button to 100,000 two hands later and Bissinger came along to a A84 flop. Bissinger checked, Mehamed bet 75,000 and that ended the hand right there. Mehamed first flashed the A and also revealed the 4.

PJ Cha limped in late position and Krzysztof Magott in the small blind did the same. Sebestyen Balint in the big blind checked his option taking all three of them to the flop.

The dealer spread 8K7. Magott put in his last 25,000 for an all-in and both Balint and Cha called.

The remaining players checked the 2 turn.

On the river 6 Balint fired 40,000 and Cha called.

Magott showed K10994 for flopped pair while Balint tabled A10655 for a flush but Cha held the higher flush with AQ985, sending Magott to hit the rails.

Ravi Shankar opened to 125,000 under the gun and Brandon Paster in middle position reraised to 475,000. Shankar four-bet to 1,525,000. Paster, covered, called for his tournament life.

Paster was ahead with pocket aces but the flop dropped JKK giving Shankar a full house. Paster made an exclamation in frustration.

Adding insult to injury, the turn Q improve Shankar's hand to a better full house making the whole table chuckle. The dealer completed the board with an inconsequential 9, which sealed Paster's fate to leave the tournament floor.

Hynam Eliminated by Kyriakides

In a limped pot to the J64 flop, Mitchell Hynam and Miltiadis Kyriakides got their chips into the middle with Hynam as the player at risk.

Hynam's top pair and nut flush draw had outs but they all vanished as soon as the 6 turn improved Kyriakides to a full house, making the K river a bitter sweet formality.

Ravi Shankar raised to 105,000 on the button. This led to a call from Bouwe Claushuis in the small blind and Birger Larsen in the big blind.

It checked to Shankar on the 8Q6 flop. Shankar continued for 150,000. Both Claushuis and Larsen called.

The 2 turn led to a pair of checks before Shankar bet 500,000. Claushuis called, but Larsen folded.

Claushuis checked the 5 river, which led to a bet of 300,000 from Shankar. Claushuis made the call.

"Good call. I missed everything," said Shankar.

Claushuis showed AQ1065 for two pair to take down the pot.

Cig Smoking Poker Player Kicked Out of WSOP Event for Putting Chips in Pocket

A player on Day 1 of the $3,000 6-Handed No-Limit Hold'em event at the World Series of Poker was kicked out of the tournament for putting his chips in his pocket after attempting to smoke at the table.

The WSOP's social media account posted a video of the incident involving a player arguing with a floor supervisor over smoking a cigarette at the table. The player was adament about smoking while playing, which hasn't been permitted in any U.S. poker room since 2003.
