Bonomo, Haxton, & Koon Among First-Time Poker Hall of Fame Candidates

This year's nominees for the Poker Hall of Fame have been announced, with the eight individuals now heading to the living members of the Hall for voting.

Each member can vote for up to four nominees, and anyone receiving votes from 22 or more members earns an automatic induction. This change, from a previous "winner-takes-all" format allowing for only one induction per year, was announced earlier this month.

Five of the eight nominees are first-time nominees, having met the minimum age requirement of 40. Eight-time WSOP bracelet winner Shaun Deeb headlines these players; he is joined by Jason Koon, Isaac Haxton, Chris Moorman, and Justin Bonomo.

Six-Handed Action Is Here With the Start of the $5,000 6-Handed No-Limit Hold'em

Short-handed action takes center stage on June 28 as Event #73: $5,000 6-Handed No-Limit Hold’em begins at the 2026 World Series of Poker hosted by Horseshoe and Paris, Las Vegas. This tournament is widely regarded as one of the most skill-intensive no-limit hold'em events of the summer.

With fewer players at the table, the action is constant, and the aggression is high. This event offers players the chance to compete for a substantial prize pool and the prestige of a short-handed title, often serving as a final tune-up for the world's best players before the Main Event begins.

The 2026 edition begins at 12 p.m. on June 28, with players navigating ten levels on Day 1. Late registration is quite generous, remaining open until the start of Level 13 on Day 2. Each level is 60 minutes long, providing plenty of room for maneuvering in the shorthanded format.

Play will continue over four days, with the field returning for Days 2 and 3 at 12 p.m., and at a yet-to-be-determined time on Day 4, until a champion is crowned on July 1. A 60-minute dinner break is scheduled after Level 6 (approx. 6:30 p.m.) on the opening day.

Past Champions & Notable Winners

In 2025, Spain’s Antonio Galiana captured his second career bracelet in this event, outlasting 557 opponents to bank a career-high $582,008. Galiana has become a force in shorthanded no-limit events, and his victory last year cemented his reputation as one of the top mid-to-high stakes grinders in the game today.
