Dan Shak Bides His Time

Level 12 : 1,200/2,400, 0 ante
Dan Shak
Dan Shak

Dan Shak raised from the cutoff to 6,500. Henri Koivisto three-bet to 25,000 from the button. The blinds folded and eventually so did Shak, but not before showing {k-Spades}{k-Diamonds}{7-Hearts}{9-Spades}. Koivisto flashed him the {10-Spades}.

"Oh no, the {10-Spades}," said tablemate Scott Baumstein, "He blocked your straight with the seven-nine!"

"I don't like putting 50,000 in with kings," said Shak, referring to Koivisto's short stack before the start of the hand. "At least not yet!"

The table laughed.

"Later," continued Shak, "Desperation time. Well, it's not desperation time for anybody yet."

Aleksei Altshuller Takes from Bobby Oboodi

Level 12 : 1,200/2,400, 0 ante

With about 18,000 chips already in the middle and the completed board reading {K-Clubs}{6-Spades}{2-Clubs}{9-Hearts}{9-Diamonds}, Aleksei Altshuller bet 9,500 into his lone opponent, Bobby Oboodi, who was under the gun. After brief consideration, Oboodi called and Altshuller flipped over {Q-Spades}{9-Spades}{8-Clubs}{5-Clubs} for trip nines with a queen, which was good enough to win the pot as Oboodi sent his cards into the muck.

Jean Ferreira opened from under the gun and was called by Connor Drinan and Millard Hale in middle position. A player in the big blind moved all in and the three other players all called.

The flop came {8-Hearts}{8-Spades}{9-Hearts} and it checked to Drinan who bet 6,500. Both Ferreira and Hale folded.

"You're drawing slim," said Drinan showing {a-Hearts}{k-Diamonds}{9-Clubs}{8-Diamonds} for a full house. The all-in player showed {q-Clubs}{10-Diamonds}{5-Clubs}{4-Diamonds}.

The turn was the {k-Hearts} and the river the {7-Spades} and the player was eliminated.

Scott Davies Doubles Up

Level 13 : 1,500/3,000, 0 ante

Scott Davies was all in preflop holding {a-Diamonds}{a-Hearts}{10-Hearts}{2-Diamonds} against the {k-Clubs}{k-Diamonds}{4-Diamonds}{6-Spades} of another player.

The flop and turn gave Davies bad news, coming {j-Clubs}{6-Diamonds}{2-Hearts}{4-Clubs} and Davies got to his feet in anticipation of a potential exit. However, the river was the {j-Diamonds}, counterfeiting his opponent's two pair and giving Davies the winner.

"There's always the river!" contributed a player at the other end of the table, and Davies raked in his chips.

Ruan Doubles Through Harder

Level 13 : 1,500/3,000, 0 ante

Jianguo Ruan and Christain Harder got all their chips in the middle on a flop of {Q-Spades}{4-Diamonds}{3-Spades} with Ruan at risk.

Jianguo Ruan: {A-Clubs}{Q-Spades}{Q-Clubs}{2-}
Christian Harder: {A-Spades}{10-Spades}{2-Spades}{X-}

Ruan had the edge with top set and Harder had the nut-flush draw. The {10-Clubs} was no help to Harder and neither was the {7-Clubs}, so Ruan took the pot to double up.
