No Repeat For Awad, No Fifth Cash for Schneider

Level 8 : 800/1,600, 0 ante
Hani Awad
Hani Awad

Last year's champ Hani Awad did not make it through Level 7 of the event, and his seat has been filled with another player.

Julie Schneider will also not be able to lock up her fifth cash in a row for this event, as she has also been eliminated from the tournament.

Along with them go the likes of poker commentator Norman Chad and two-time bracelet winner Mel Judah.

Chris George Looks Like the Leader

Level 8 : 800/1,600, 0 ante

Chris George has three cashes so far this series and is in good shape to start a deep run in this event. George took down a recent pot with {2-Diamonds}{3-Diamonds}{3-Spades}{k-Hearts} on a {q-Spades}{7-Spades}{8-Hearts}{9-Clubs}{9-Hearts} board. The action is unknown, but there looked to be a least three bets made in the hand.

George looks to be, for the moment, at least, the tournament chip leader.

A Little Recovery for Mike Ross

Level 8 : 800/1,600, 0 ante
Mike Ross
Mike Ross

Stud Hi-Lo

Mike Ross appeared to have taken a beat from Kevin LaMonica just one hand before we got to the table.

"He had four fives," Ross said. "How am I supposed to beat that?"

"A straight flush," Jim Collopy replied, joking.

In the next hand, LaMonica completed from the bring in.

"What do you have three deuces now?" Ross asked.

Ross: {x-}{x-} / {8-Diamonds}{K-Diamonds}{A-Clubs}{Q-Diamonds} / {x-}
Gregorich: {x-}{x-} / {3-Diamonds}{8-Hearts}{J-Diamonds}{9-Hearts} / {x-}
LaMonica: {x-}{x-} / {2-Spades}{10-Hearts} — Folded

After LaMonica completed, Ross made it two bets. Mark Gregorich called as did LaMonica.

On fourth, action checked to Gregorich and he bet. LaMonica folded but Ross called.

"I'm probably folding the next street," Ross said.

"Now you're not," Gregorich said as Ross's card was dealt.

Ross checked to Gregorich who bet, and Ross called. Both players checked on sixth and seventh.

"Queens," Ross said showing {Q-Clubs}{2-Hearts}{6-Clubs}. Gregorich just mucked and Ross was able to recover a few chips.

One Mike Up, One Mike Down

Level 8 : 800/1,600, 0 ante

Mike Leah had been nursing a short stack for the last few levels, finding chips here and there but not really able to make anything happen. His seat is now empty and waiting to be filled.

Across the room, Mike Ross has seen his stack almost double. In a recent pot, Ross checked down the river of a {5-Spades}{q-Diamonds}{9-Diamonds}{j-Diamonds}{4-Spades} board and was shown a set of jacks from his opponent.

"No good," replied Ross tabling {7-Diamonds}{3-Diamonds}{3-}{x-} for a diamond flush, scooping the pot.

Full House for Taylor

Level 8 : 800/1,600, 0 ante

With a {9-Hearts}{q-Diamonds}{j-Hearts} flop in front of them, Esther Taylor called a second bet, and the original aggressor folded. The {9-Spades} hit on the turn and Taylor raised a bet, getting just a call.

The {a-Hearts} completed the board and Taylor called a lead bet. Taylor immediately announced she had a full house, tabling {a-Diamonds}{a-Clubs}{9-Clubs}{10-Diamonds} and her opponent mucked.

Deuces With a Pair for Arieh

Level 8 : 800/1,600, 0 ante

Omaha Hi-Lo

We caught up with Josh Arieh and Phil Hellmuth on a board of {Q-Diamonds}{2-Clubs}{2-Spades}{10-Clubs}. Both players checked it down to see the {6-Spades} on the river. Arieh bet and Hellmuth called quickly.

Arieh tried to fan his cards on the table but only revealed {2-Diamonds}{5-Hearts}{9-Diamonds}.

"Deuces with a nine?" Hellmuth asked.

"Deuces with a pair," said Arieh showing his {6-Hearts} for his last card. "I really didn't mean to do that."

Hellmuth showed {2-Hearts}{8-Spades}{8-Diamonds}{3-Spades} for trips, but he couldn't beat Arieh's full house and his chips were passed over.

"I'm surprised you didn't bet the turn," Hellmuth said. "I've been reading the write ups about how you've been moving in with fours. I thought you were gonna give it to me."
