Day 1a of Event #60: $888 Crazy Eights No-Limit Hold'em 8-Handed is over and done with. This flight had a total of 1,506 entries, which beats the total of last year, as that was 1,291 but with re-entries only allowed for the next flight. A min-cash today was worth $1,334, and 226 players finished in the money. The day wrapped up with 58 players who will return for Day 2 on Monday, together with the survivors from Days 1b, 1c and 1d.

The chip leader of the day is Seville Hale with 713,000 chips. Hale has cashed three times already in this series but will have his heart set on a deep run in this tournament. He currently has other big stacks behind him, including Jamie Rosen (589,000), Marius Pertea (514,000), Jason Wheeler (491,000), Jeffrey Bozier II (438,000), Eric Baldwin (424,000), and Joshua Kays (423,000).

Unfortunately, not everyone could make it through this flight. Notables like 888 poker ambassadors Chris Moorman and Natalie Hof, and others like Ben Yu, Faraz Jaka, Govert Metaal, Loni Harwood, Men Nguyen, Barry Shulman, Billy Baxter, Susie Isaacs, Dan Heimiller, Mike Leah, Ryan Laplante, and Dara O’Kearney were all eliminated.

There are two more flights that players can enter tomorrow — one at 10 a.m. and the last flight at 4 p.m. For both events, late registration will be open until the start of Level 9.

All players that get through these four flights will come together on Monday and play Day 2 at 2 p.m. in the Miranda Room. Make sure to keep your eyes on PokerNews to see who makes it to Day 2.

Jason Wheeler Wins

Level 18 : 3,000/6,000, 500 ante

The flop was {5-Clubs}{9-Clubs}{9-Spades}, and the player in the big blind checked. Jason Wheeler, in the under-the-gun position, bet 21,000. The player on the button called, and the big blind folded. The turn brought them the {8-Clubs}, and both players checked. The {3-Clubs} on the river completed the board. Wheeler bet 50,000, and his opponent called.

Wheeler showed {A-Diamonds}{8-Hearts} for eights and nines, and his opponent showed a pair of sevens for a lower two pair.

Brandon Ageloff Eliminated

Level 17 : 2,500/5,000, 500 ante

Brandon Ageloff has just been eliminated, but he was kind enough to tell us about a big pot he lost earlier.

The player in the cutoff raised to 6,000 during the 1,500/3,000 blind level. Ageloff, sitting on the button, three-bet to 12,500. His opponent four-bet to 27,000, and Ageloff decided to five-bet shove all in. Ageloff still had about 128,000, and the other player had about 88,000. His opponent called.

"I was new to the table, and the previous five or six hands, he kept raising stuff," Ageloff reasoned.

Brandon Ageloff: {6-Spades}{2-Spades}
Cutoff: {A-Clubs}{A-Hearts}

The flop was {J-}{6-}{8-} with one spade. The turn brought the {Q-Spades}, and the river was a blank.

"After that, I lost the rest. I'm going for some food now and play another tournament. If I don't make Day 2, I'll be back tomorrow morning," Ageloff said before saying goodbye to a friend and leaving.
