Third Spade Comes to Bonomo's Rescue

Level 10 : 6,000/12,000, 0 ante
Justin Bonomo
Justin Bonomo

No-Limit Hold'em

Hijack Justin Bonomo opened to 9,000, and Ralph Perry flatted in the cutoff. Ivo Donev, however, squeezed to 28,000 from the big blind. Action stopped at Bonomo, who called after a while. Perry laid his hand down.

The flop was {6-Spades}{A-Spades}{10-Hearts}, Donev continued for 38,000, and Bonomo took more than a minute to think about his options. Then he announced he was all in, pushing his 175,200 chips toward the middle. Donev called.

Justin Bonomo: {K-Spades}{10-Spades}
Ivo Donev: {A-Clubs}{K-Clubs}

The {5-Hearts} turn was a brick, but the {3-Spades} river saved Bonomo in the tournament. More than that, he scored a huge double-up.

Donev stood up from his seat, saying, "You got me?" in frustration. The dealer and players at the table ensured him that he had Bonomo well covered. Donev returned to his seat, still visibly shocked by the nasty river card.

Lisandro Doesn't Get Stacked By the Cooler

Level 10 : 6,000/12,000, 0 ante
Jeffrey Lisandro
Jeffrey Lisandro

Pot-Limit Omaha

Jeff Lisandro bet 15,000 on a completed board of {j-Hearts}{5-Diamonds}{j-Clubs}{10-Spades}{k-Clubs}, only to see Talal Shakerchi check-raise to 55,000 in the big blind. Lisandro thought it over for about a minute and then splashed in a call. Shakerchi showed {j-Spades}{j-Diamonds}{2-Spades}{10-Hearts} for quads.

It was an impressive hand, to be sure, but perhaps just as impressive was the restraint shown by Lisandro, as he flashed {k-Diamonds}{k-Spades} for kings full.

Donev Triples in Massive PLO Hand, Leah Busts

Level 10 : 6,000/12,000, 0 ante
Mike Leah
Mike Leah

Pot-Limit Omaha

There were four players in a pot with the flop reading {10-Diamonds}{9-Diamonds}{3-Clubs}. What happened after was a true chip storm.

Action was checked to hijack Mike Leah, who bet 37,500. Ivo Donev moved all in for his 78,500 from the button. Next to act was Harry Madoff, who paused for a moment before saying, "I'm all in or whatever I'm allowed." He moved his 252,500 in.

"One time, please," shouted Donev, but the action hadn't been closed yet.

Big blind Justin Bonomo seemed to be interested in joining the party. He asked how much Madoff's all-in was, then turned to Leah, asking about his remaining stack. After more than a minute, Bonomo decided to escape the shoving festival and laid his hand down.

"I'm all in," Leah instantly said, and so the three sets of hole cards were turned up.

Ivo Donev: {10-Spades}{10-Hearts}{8-Diamonds}{7-Diamonds}
Harry Madoff: {J-Diamonds}{9-Spades}{Q-Hearts}{K-Spades}
Mike Leah: {A-Diamonds}{5-Diamonds}{3-Hearts}{2-Hearts}

"I have the nut-flush draw and a pair," Leah said, while Donev had already been whispering in reporters' ears that he had the nuts. Madoff had a wrap in addition to his middle pair.

The {10-Clubs} turn was the best possible card for Donev, improving his hand to quads and securing him a triple-up right there. The {7-Spades} bricked Leah's outs, leaving Madoff with the hefty side pot.

Madoff asked Leah for 174,000. "I'm sorry, I can't pay you," Leah replied with a smile, having double-checked his remaining stack. Madoff had him covered by roughly 20,000, and Leah departed from the Poker Players Championship.

Matt Glantz Eliminated by Elior Sion

Level 11 : 8,000/16,000, 0 ante
Matt Glantz
Matt Glantz

Pot-Limit Omaha

Matt Glantz ended up all in on the {Q-Clubs}{8-Diamonds}{7-Diamonds} flop, facing off with Elior Sion.

Matt Glantz: {A-Hearts}{A-Diamonds}{K-Clubs}{2-Clubs}
Elior Sion: {Q-Clubs}{J-Hearts}{J-Clubs}{10-Clubs}

Glantz was ahead, but Sion had plenty of outs with his combo draw. One of them emerged right on the turn as the {Q-Spades} hit the felt. Glantz immediately knew his rally was coming to a close, standing up from his chair. The {2-Hearts} river confirmed Sion's victory, and the players at the table offered, "Good game," to Glantz. Sion even apologized for the knockout, but Glantz took the beat like a good sport.

Sion is now only few big bets away from reaching a 1 million-chip mark.

Limit Hold'em

Phil Hellmuth was down to his last 25,000 when Cary Katz opened from under the gun. Hellmuth stuck his last chips in from the big blind, and Katz wasn't folding.

Hellmuth: {A-Clubs}{2-Clubs}
Katz: {J-Diamonds}{10-Diamonds}

Hellmuth took an even bigger lead after the {9-Clubs}{9-}{6-Clubs} flop, slashing some of Katz's outs. A {Q-} on the turn gave Katz an inside straight draw, and an {8-} on the river completed it. "The Poker Brat" calmly said his goodbyes and walked out of the tournament area.

Negreanu Triples Up

Level 11 : 8,000/16,000, 0 ante
Daniel Negreanu
Daniel Negreanu

Pot-Limit Omaha

Daniel Negreanu was already all in when we got to his table, with {2-Diamonds}{6-Spades}{9-Diamonds}{6-Diamonds} on the board. Isaac Haxton in the big blind and Harry Madoff in the cutoff had built a side pot of about 75,000, and the {5-Hearts} fell on the river. Haxton bet 85,000, and Madoff shook his head but called after about 30 seconds.

"King-high flush," Haxton said, showing {k-Diamonds}{8-Diamonds}{a-Clubs}{5-Diamonds}.

It was no good, as Madoff held {a-Diamonds}{j-Diamonds}{q-Hearts}{8-Clubs} for the nut flush.

"I'll take the middle," Negreanu piped in, showing {9-Spades}{8-Hearts}{6-Hearts}{a-Spades} for sixes full of nines.

The showdown was much to the delight of the rail.

Matusow Checks Back His Full Boat

Level 11 : 8,000/16,000, 0 ante
Mike Matusow
Mike Matusow

Limit Hold'em

Jason Mercier three-bet from the small blind over Mike Matusow's raise from the cutoff. Matusow called to have a look at the flop.

Mercier continued when the {2-Spades}{9-Diamonds}{2-Clubs} hit the felt, and Matusow called again.

The turn was the {A-Clubs} and Mercier slowed down with a check, calling Matusow's bet.

No bets were made on the {Q-Clubs} river as Matusow had thought out loud. "I put you on kings or queens," he said before checking back.

The showdown was shocking for all players at the table as Matusow tabled {9-Hearts}{9-Spades} for a flopped full house.

Daniel Alaei started laughing while others were wondering why Matusow didn't bet.

"That flop was good for me, I'm not gonna lie," Matusow said before adding: "But that ace and queen..."

Dan Smith Falls to Jake Abdalla

Level 12 : 10,000/20,000, 0 ante
Dan Smith
Dan Smith

No-Limit Hold'em

Dan Smith shoved his last 31,000 from the cutoff and Nick Schulman called from the button. Small blind Jack Abdalla paused for quite some time, eventually pulling out 77,500. Smith then borrowed Joey Couden's sunglasses while Schulman thought about the situation. Schulman decided to call again.

The flop {2-Spades}{4-Clubs}{7-Clubs} saw Abdalla fire another 75,000 and Schulman finally gave up, leaving the showdown to Abdalla and Smith.

Abdalla had {K-Clubs}{K-Spades} and Smith turned up {3-Spades}{3-Hearts}, hoping for a set or a runner-runner straight.

However, the {2-Clubs} turn and {2-Hearts} river were all but helpful for Smith who took off the sunglasses and returned them to Couden.

"Thanks for the help, appreciate it," Smith said before he left the table. "I tried," Couden replied.

Ross to the Rail

Michael Ross
Michael Ross

Omaha Hi-Lo

Mike Ross has played his last hand of this tournament. Short-stacked, Ross got his last chips in on the turn during a blind battle with Mike Wattel.

The board was reading {A-Clubs}{6-Spades}{K-Spades}{9-Hearts} and Wattel showed {A-Diamonds}{Q-Clubs}{J-Hearts}{3-Diamonds}. Ross only showed {4-Clubs}{3-Hearts}, indicating he was drawing to just the low portion of the pot. The {10-Hearts} on the river improved Wattel to Broadway, while Ross missed his low draw.

"Sorry Mike," said Wattel to Ross, who quickly left the tournament area.

Negreanu Doubles Again

Level 12 : 10,000/20,000, 0 ante
Daniel Negreanu
Daniel Negreanu

No-Limit Hold'em

Around 200,000 lied in the middle with Harry Madoff and Daniel Negreanu battling on the {5-Hearts}{3-Spades}{8-Clubs}{2-Spades} turn. Madoff checked and Negreanu pushed all his chips towards the pot.

"How much do you have?" Madoff asked. It was exactly 160,000. Less than a minute after that, Madoff threw in some of his chips, calling.

Nergeanu rolled over {3-Hearts}{3-Clubs} for a flopped set but Madoff didn't want to turn up his hand.

"I got tens," he said. The dealer insisted Madoff had to turn his hand face down, following the showdown rule.

"I said I got tens, why would I lie?" Madoff replied, and then he finally showed his {10-Clubs}{10-Diamonds}.

Negreanu dodged the deadly two-outer as the {7-Clubs} river improved his hand into a full house, securing him a large double up.

Negreanu was down to 40,000 but has grinded it back up to over 500,000 within the last hour.
