Laplante Raises the River

Level 11 : 600/1,200, 200 ante
Ryan Laplante
Ryan Laplante

Pot-Limit Omaha

Ryan Laplante raised to 3,500 in middle position, Kate Hoang called one seat over, and Bryce Yockey defended his big blind. All players checked the {7-Diamonds}{7-Spades}{J-Spades} flop and {A-Clubs} turn.

The river was the {Q-Spades} and Yockey bet 6,000. Laplante raised to 25,000, Hoang tank-folded, and Yockey called. Laplante showed {A-Spades}{Q-Hearts}{Q-Clubs}{4-Hearts} for queens full. Yockey mucked, leaving the pot to the 2016 bracelet winner.

Xantopoulos Falls to Butler

Level 11 : 600/1,200, 200 ante

No-Limit Hold'em

Pavlos Xantopoulos opened in early position and Ashly Butler defended his big blind. On a {9-Diamonds}{4-Clubs}{6-Clubs} flop, Butler checked, Xanthopoulos bet 3,200. Ashly Butler check-raised to 9,100, Xantopoulos shoved all in around 30,000 and Butler snap-called.

Pavlos Xantopoulos: {10-Hearts}{8-Hearts}
Ashly Butler: {A-Clubs}{A-Spades}

Xantopoulos needed a nine but didn't catch one on the {4-Spades} turn and {8-Diamonds} river, and he is out.

Defending Champion Loren Klein Eliminated

Level 11 : 600/1,200, 200 ante
Loren Klein
Loren Klein

Pot-Limit Omaha

Loren Klein will not be repeating his performance from last year in this tournament when he won it all for $241,427. Klein started the day short and was seated in the big blind when Ivan Naumov opened to 3,000 in late position. Klein three-bet to 9,600, more than half his stack, and Naumov called.

On the {A-Hearts}{Q-Hearts}{10-Clubs} flop, the rest of Klein's chips went in.

Loren Klein: {A-Diamonds}{A-Clubs}{9-Diamonds}{4-Spades}
Ivan Naumov: {K-Clubs}{Q-Clubs}{J-Clubs}{9-Clubs}

Klein needed the board to pair to survive, but the {K-Hearts} on the turn and {9-Hearts} on the river didn't help the defending champion.

Dias Busts Former November Niner

Level 11 : 600/1,200, 200 ante

No-Limit Hold'em

Action folded around to Bernardo Dias in the small blind who raised enough to put a short-stacked Martin Staszko all in. Staszko called, putting himself at risk.

Martin Staszko: {k-Hearts}{6-Diamonds}
Bernardo Dias: {q-Hearts}{k-Spades}

The board ran out {9-Clubs}{2-Clubs}{j-Spades}{2-Hearts}{2-Spades} and the former November Niner hit the rail.

"Payout!" "Payout!"

Level 11 : 600/1,200, 200 ante

No-Limit Hold'em

With the bubble bursting late last night, all returning players secured at least a min-cash in this event. Short stacks have therefore been happy to get their money in in droves, resulting in "Payout!" sounding frequently all across the Miranda ballroom.

One of the players to end up empty-handed was Jeremy Tinsley, who busted against Stephen Johnson. Tinsley held {A-Clubs}{J-Diamonds} and looked okay to survive against Johnson's {A-Hearts}{9-Hearts} — until the river, that is: {3-Diamonds}{8-Hearts}{J-Spades}{10-Hearts}{Q-Diamonds}.

Shuffle Up and Deal

Level 11 : 600/1,200, 200 ante

Play is underway here on Day 2 and the first game seeing action will be no-limit hold'em. Players are in the money now, so anyone busting will leave with at least some consolation this afternoon.
