Level 9 : 3,000/6,000, 500 ante

Ryan Hughes had {k-Hearts}{j-Hearts} up on fourth street and bet double with Randy Ohel showing {8-Hearts}{8-Spades}. That chased away a third player, but Ohel called after thinking awhile. Hughes bet again on fifth, and Ohel raised. Hughes put his remaining chips in to get himself all in.

Hughes: {7-Hearts}{2-Hearts}/{k-Hearts}{j-Hearts}{a-Clubs}
Ohel: {q-Hearts}{10-Hearts}/{8-Hearts}{8-Spades}{10-Diamonds}

Ohel had two pair and blockers, so he was in solid shape. Hughes did not find another heart for a flush, and Ohel eliminated the current WSOP Player of the Year points leader.

Mercier Over Gaspard

Level 9 : 3,000/6,000, 500 ante

Prince Gaspard called bets on fifth and sixth streets against Jason Mercier, who had a strong, Broadway-filled board.

Gaspard: {x-}{x-}/{9-Hearts}{7-Clubs}{4-Hearts}{j-Clubs}/{x-}
Mercier: {x-}{x-}/{q-Hearts}{j-Hearts}{a-Clubs}{q-Clubs}/{x-}

Both players checked the river, and Mercier revealed {a-Diamonds}{10-Spades}{10-Diamonds} for aces up to take the pot.

Trip Sevens for Grospellier

Level 9 : 3,000/6,000, 500 ante

Bertrand Grospellier: {x-}{x-}/{7-Diamonds}{7-Hearts}{4-Diamonds}{a-Spades}/{x-}
Marco Johnson: {x-}{x-}/{a-Diamonds}{8-Clubs}{j-Hearts}{10-Clubs}/{x-}

Bertrand Grospellier picked up a big spot from Marco Johnson recently.

Grospellier bet each street leading out and was called by Johnson the whole way. After seventh street, Grospellier tabled {7-Clubs}{8-Hearts}{k-Spades} for trip sevens, and Johnson mucked.

Johnson Grabs a Much-Needed Pot

Level 9 : 3,000/6,000, 500 ante

Marco Johnson: {x-}{x-}/{a-Spades}{3-Clubs}{2-Diamonds}{3-Hearts}/{x-}
Sean Mirrasouli: {x-}{x-}/{8-Hearts}{3-Spades}{7-Diamonds}{j-Hearts}/{x-}

Marco Johnson bet on sixth street, and Sean Mirrasouli called. On seventh, Johnson fired again, and after a brief period in the tank, Mirrasouli let it go.

Plenty of Spades for Bax

Level 9 : 3,000/6,000, 500 ante

Cliff "JohnnyBax" Josephy and Chris Vitch just played a pot in which both players picked up a plethora of spades on their boards.

Josephy completed with the {9-Spades} and caught {j-Spades}{5-Spades}{a-Spades} behind it, while Vitch check-called fourth and fifth streets with {k-Spades}{7-Spades}{6-Spades}{a-Hearts}. When Josephy caught that fourth spade, Vitch sighed and folded to a bet on sixth.

Zack Wins Without the Straight

Level 9 : 3,000/6,000, 500 ante

Bertrand Grospellier bet into two opponents with his ace-high board on fifth street and got two calls, but Dan Zack picked up a very scary four-straight on sixth and took the lead.

Zack: {x-}{x-}/{8-Clubs}{5-Diamonds}{7-Diamonds}{6-Spades}
Grospellier: {x-}{x-}/{a-Spades}{2-Clubs}{j-Clubs}{k-Clubs}
Third player: {x-}{x-}/{10-Diamonds}{q-Hearts}{6-Clubs}{7-Spades}

Grospellier called, with the third player folding. On the river, both Zack and Grospellier checked. The latter showed a {j-} for one pair, but Zack had it beat with {8-Diamonds}{5-Spades}{q-Clubs} for eights up.

"ElkY" appears to be having a swingy go of it today, as he ran his starting stack up to nearly 150,000 with a quickness but is now back below 50,000.
