Do You Know Who I Am?

I'm King of the World!
I'm King of the World!
I love the security guards here, if only because they don't have a clue who any of the players are and so treat everyone equally, which, in truth, is a breath of fresh air.

Whilst we had Johnny Chan being stopped by the doormen as he trundled into the Betfair lounge for a cuppa, we now have Gus Hansen being fronted on the balcony here as he tries to watch Patrick Antonius in action.

"Excuse me, sir," says the unknowing security guard, "You need to stand the other side of the rail."

"I think you'll find I'm okay here," replies a frustrated Gus, clearly thinking, "Does he not know who the hell I am!"

Standing firm, the security guard continues, "Sorry sir, you need to have a press pass to watch from there."

Reluctant to budge, Gus adds, "If you just ask one of these guys in charge over there they'll confirm it's okay."

At this point, one of the TV guys plods over and pretty much says it's okay and invites Gus to sit down on the seat in the corner. Meanwhile, the security guard isn't too sure what to do as he has been given strict orders to follow. Anyhow, for the time being, it looks like where Chan failed, Gus has succeeded and that star power reigns supreme.

Carter Doubles Through

Matthew Carter, whose chips have been in and out more than the hokey pokey, is now on 57,500 after doubling up off Jimmy 'Gobboboy' Fricke.

It was a pretty simple affair - although I'm not 100% on the pre-flop action - Jimmy Fricke raising it up under the gun before finding action from Carter on the small blind. The chips (what was left of them) went in on a {5-Clubs}{6-Spades}{Q-Hearts} flop, Carter's {K-Clubs}{K-Spades} holding up against Fricke's {A-Hearts}{K-Diamonds} on the {J-Clubs} turn and {4-Hearts} river.

Isabelle Mercier Eliminated....By Tony G

Isabelle Mercier, on her bike

With alarming pace, another huge hand kicked off, with newly-stacked Tony G and Jamie Gold interested preflop, but Isabelle interested in moving in to take the pot there and then. She can't have been delighted when Tony G shoved over the top when it got back round to him, and Jamie Gold passed saying, "If I see a Ten...."

Mercier: {6-Clubs}{6-Spades}
Tony G: {K-Diamonds}{K-Spades}

Flop: {8-Diamonds}{9-Hearts}{K-Clubs} Tony G: "Look at this!"
Turn: {A-Clubs}
River: {9-Spades} "A boat! The butcher is alive!"

They hugged, and Isabelle shook the hands of all players at the table, but progressed down the hall muttering the expected profanities after having ridden the rollercoaster and come off the tracks at such a late stage.

Johnny Chan the Master =133K

Over at the featured TV table, Johnny Chan has increased his stack to 133,000 after taking down a pot with a King-high flush. He's the table chipleader.

Daniel Negreanu has 48,000 while Pearljammer is up to 55,000. Jakob Paulsen, who held the lead earlier in the day, has slipped to 100,000.

Pros on the Rail: The Great Dane and the Canuck Donkey

Over at the featured TV table, Gus Hansen wandered over to check out the action. Johnny Chan invited him over to an off limits area (where the TV cameras are and I'm situated with my laptop).

Johnny Chan: "Only tournament leaders are allowed over here. You're still leading, aren't you Gus?"

Gus Hansen: "Yeah, I am, but Patrik Antonius won a pot and is up to 280,000. He might catch me."

Daniel Negreanu: "Just another European donkey."

Hansen: "Well it's good to see at least one Canadian donkey left in the tournament."

Hee-haw!

2-to-1 Somebody Throws Up on My Laptop

It's nearing the end of the day and as usual the party crowd is here getting drunk, watching the poker and asking whether a straight beats a flush. The hectic environment will look great for TV but it's a nightmare for media types like us. With heaving crowds and the sounds of bottles breaking nearby, one worries for their PC and other belongings.

Isabelle Mercier Takes a Big Hit; Tony G Saved by the River

Tony G: suddenly has a lot of chips
Tony G: suddenly has a lot of chips
Having been talked at by Tony G for the last hour and a half, Isabelle Mercier finally played a big pot with him, and it didn't end well for her. Tony G had re-raised a 4k preflop bet to 19k, and she thought for a while on the button before re-raising to 38k. That was pretty much all in for Tony G, and their two hands were on their backs faster than you could say, "Feel my power!"

Tony G: {A-Clubs}{K-Clubs}
Isabelle Mercier: {Q-Clubs}{Q-Hearts}

"I really want to bust you," admits Isabelle, "I really do - even though I love you dearly..."
Flop: {2-Diamonds}{8-Spades}{J-Spades}
Turn: {7-Spades} "Deuce," suggests Mercier...

River: {K-Diamonds}

"The butcher of Baghdad!" shouts Tony G. "I've been waiting for that all night - and there he is!" Pointing to the sword-wielding King and collecting his new large stack.

The very next hand Tony G raised preflop and Isabelle moved in...
"You're on tilt," he said.
"Super tilt," she agreed. He passed.
