PokerNews Video: Daniel Negreanu - Bright Colors Can Be Manly

We grabbed Daniel Negreanu just before start time today as he was on his way to play at the feature table alongside Howard Lederer and Lee Nelson. Daniel talks about playing against Lee Nelson and the 'Kill Phil' strategy, his lack of whistling ability, and tells us that bright colors can be a very manly wardrobe choice.

Johnny Lodden Eliminated

Johnny Lodden eliminated and he takes a bevy of hot Swedish girls with him, who were parked on the rail sweating their favorite pro
On a flop of {9-Diamonds}{8-Diamonds}{2-Clubs}, Johnny Lodden bet out 4,500, Nicolas Levi raised enough to set Lodden all in, Erik Joergensen folded, and Lodden called.

Lodden flipped over {A-Diamonds}{A-Spades} and found himself in excellent shape against Levi’s {10-Diamonds}{10-Clubs}. The turn was the {5-Hearts}, but the river was a brutally unlucky {10-Hearts}, Levi hitting the two-outer to eliminate Lodden.

Lodden and his very attractive rail birds last seen headed out the door.

"It's Time to Suck Out!"

Some mercy for Isabelle "No Mercy" Mercier
Some mercy for Isabelle "No Mercy" Mercier
Such were the words of Isabelle Mercier, who hasn't had the easiest day of it and had reached the preflop shoving point... She was looked up by the dominating {A-Hearts}{J-Spades} of Mats Gavatin, and her {A-Spades}{7-Diamonds} needed some help. Like a {7-Clubs} first card out on the flop!. The rest of the board came out {5-Spades}{4-Clubs}{2-Spades}{K-Diamonds} and Isabelle is back in it.

Murphy's Law

The Oriental Express. Chooo! Chooo!
The Oriental Express. Chooo! Chooo!
As I recently learned today, Murphy's Law (or what I would refer to as Sod's Law) has just come into play, my prior complaints of little action and a subdued atmosphere triggering a cataclysmic frenzy in the poker jungle.

As DaveShoelace voyeured an all-in on Table 1, young David Lionel was simultaneously all-in on the neighbouring table. His sniper was one Johnny Chan, who was indulging in a spot of good old fashioning coin-flipping with {Q-Diamonds}{Q-Clubs} versus David's {A-Diamonds}{K-Spades}.

With both players rising from their seats in excitement, the 10-time bracelet winner riffling his chips and still as apprehensive as ever, the dealer dealt out the Chan-friendly {J-Diamonds}{6-Clubs}{5-Clubs} flop. If that wasn't enough, the Orient Express was then rewarded with a flush draw on the turn when the {9-Clubs} popped out.

A {4-Clubs} and a Queen-high flush later and it was all over for Lionel, Chan scooping in what appeared to be a pot of around 60k giving him a menacing stack of 80k and Cheshire Cat grin to boot.

If anyone questioned the passion and desire to win of these old timers, then one only need look at Chan's reaction to the river, his punched fist proving that he's still hungry for victory.

More importantly, however, who the hell are Murphy and Sod and when did they come up with these bloody laws?

Cliffhanger Resolved for Michael Greco

The tournament is over for one Michael ‘Don’t Call Me Beppe’ Greco. The ex-soapstar who had been playing a focused short stacked game, had come to the crucial race which marks a turning point in a tournament, and turned downwards, finding his Jacks vs. A-K confrontation going against him and leaving him with under 4,000 – which went in sharpish with his {10-Spades}{10-Hearts}. Julien Bertazzon gave him a spin with {A-Spades}{J-Spades}.

One of those discussions in which players not involved in the coup try to join the fun by talking about what they’ve folded ensued.

“I passed an Ace,” said one player.
“Me too,” added one of the blinds.
“I folded a Jack,” offers Jamie Gold.
“I passed pocket Tens,” deadpans Jon Shoreman.
“Really?”
“No.”

However many bullets Greco did or didn’t have to dodge, he was hit with the first one fired – the {J-Clubs} popping straight out on the flop. A bit of a headshake and a weary walk later and we’re down one more.

Moments later, Jonathan Shoreman was eliminated by Theo Jorgensen.

On a board of {A-Hearts}{10-Hearts}{5-Hearts}{Q-Clubs}, Jonathan Shoreman moved all in and Theo Jorgensen called. Jorgensen showed {Q-Hearts}{10-Clubs}, having turned two pair against Shoreman’s {A-Clubs}{K-Hearts}. The river was the {8-Clubs}, and Shoreman hit the rail.

Paulsen having a Ballsen

Jakob Paulsen is having a good day, he started the day with only 12k but has increased it ten-fold to 120k in less than two blind levels.

Having less of a good day is the aforementioned Best of British table, who are still yet to be dealt one good hand, as they keep telling us.

Over at the featured TV table, Daniel Negreanu is running lines from Eddie Murphy's "Delirious." Kid Poker is doing a spot on imitation of Eddie Murphy's impersonation of James Brown and Luther Vandros.

Wham Bam Ouch For Tran

Oh bugger!
Oh bugger!
As I followed the snail trail of cameramen as they dribbled through the rail and towards Table Tran, I was met with a board of {A-Spades}{8-Hearts}{2-Diamonds}{3-Hearts} and an all-in of 5,800 from Tero Salonen.

Kenny Tran pretty much beat his opponent into the pot and proudly flipped over {A-Hearts}{K-Spades}, his kicker dominating that of Tero's {A-Clubs}{10-Diamonds}.

However, even with one card to come, anything can happen in this cruel game, and so it was with great amazement (although I fear the sickos on the rail throughly enjoyed the excitement of it all) that the dealer slammed down a wicked {10-Spades} to give the shortstack the pot.

Tran jumped up in frustration, nearly knocking me sideways in the process, and left the table to walk around the balcony. Once composed, he returned to action, but the 35k stack sailing south will certainly sting for a good while yet.
