Mrs Snoopy
Mrs Snoopy
At the risk of making myself most unwelcome in other venues, I must confess that the Empire Casino here in Leicester Square has acted like a babe magnet this week and attracted an array of beautiful female specimens. Not only have the male contingent of the press been treated to the likes of Erica Schoenberg, Jennifer Tilly and Liv Boeree, but we've also been delighted by the presence of the Ibiza Angels, the aesthetically pleasing ensemble of masseuses. And then there are the waitresses, receptionists, croupiers, and so on, all possible Mrs Snoopys. Aye carumba, I'm going to have to come here more often!

More from the Mouth

"Anytime I get to play with Jeffrey it's always going to be fun, win or lose."

-- Mike Matusow on joining Jeffrey Lisandro's table.

Also at the table are notables Robert Williamson III, Ken Wong and Sandra Naujoks.

Sigh

Another player who's had a bit of a rollercoaster today is David Lawrence. It seems that every time I pass his table he's sighing deeply and making a big laydown, yet he always seems to claw back a chunky stack by the next time I pass.

This time I witnessed him bet 5,000 on an {8-Diamonds} {2-Diamonds} {7-Hearts} {8-Hearts} board, only to exhale with feeling and lay it down to an all in push from Thomas Marchese. Nevertheless, Lawrence is still in good shape with around 11,000 chips remaining.

Stacked Table

While there have been few dramatic confrontations in the first half of this level (few showdowns, for that matter) up here there's a table which has been fortunate in acquiring players with large stacks, whenever a gap becomes available - with one of the originals usually gaining a large stack in the process. Here's a selection of the comfortably-above-average stacks on Table 16:

Average Stack - 8,100*
Shaun Deeb - 11,200
Martin Smith - 11,500
Ken Corkery - 11,850
Xavier Laszcz - 14,900
Albert Sapiano - 8,200 (included because as he says himself: "My stack is up and down like a pair of drawers."

Marchese Marches On

Simon Higgins, David Lawrence and Thomas Marchese all saw a flop of {Q-Clubs} {8-Clubs} {Q-Hearts} and none of them seemed particularly in love with it, as they all checked.

Come the {2-Spades} turn, though, Higgins bet out 700. Lawrence passed, but Marchese called it. What Marchese had will never be known, though, as both players checked the {3-Diamonds} river and Marchese just mucked as Higgins turned over {10-Diamonds} {8-Spades} for two pair. Marchese is in absolutely no danger, though, and is currently among the chip leaders on 18,700.

Glazed Looks

waddya mean, it wassa notta me
waddya mean, it wassa notta me
There are a few glazed looks down here on the first floor, as Mike Matusow joins the likes of Robert Williamson III and immediately regales the tables with various anecdotes. He did silence on one hand however, consecutive bets of 1,000 taking down a nice pot on a {Q-Clubs}{9-Diamonds}{3-Diamonds}{3-Spades} board to give him just over 8,000 in chips.

Other stacks on Table Matusow:

Robert Williamson III -- 4,475
Ken Wong -- 3,950
Jeff Lisandro -- 6,050

Sapiano's Drawers Down

Frenchman Xavier Laszcz is our probable Chip Leader at this time, having just eliminated Albert Sapiano, putting his dramatic rollercoastering to an end for this tournament. Having dropped to under his starting stack after a good start, it folded to Sapiano in the small blind, who ended up calling a big blind Xavier Laszcz raise. With around 4,000 in the pot, he moved all in on a {A-Diamonds} {2-Diamonds} {J-Hearts} board, and Laszcz went into the tank.

He thought for so long that Sapiano eventually called the clock, which seemed to somehow make up his opponent's mind - Laszcz called and was happy to see (draw or no draw) the {K-Diamonds} {4-Diamonds} in Sapiano's hand. He held {Q-Hearts} {Q-Spades} .

The turn and river brought the blank {4-Hearts} {6-Hearts} and after a brief loud, "YES!" Laszcz stacked his 22,000 chips while the Honeyman hit the rail. He started to chat a little about the hand - "If he had the Ace, why bet...?"
"I'm happy for you," smiled Martin Smith.
"I'm a little bit jealous," admitted Shaun Deeb, and heads nodded in sympathetic agreement around the table.
"You don't want to bet.." continued Laszcz, before dispensing the advice, "You want to trap the Froggy..."

Massive Cooler Freezes Out Lawrence

David Lawrence had been making a fine recovery -- he was up to around 18,000 -- when disaster struck. Paul Barnes made a raise, only for Thomas Marchese to reraise him. And no sooner had he done so, than Lawrence reraised again. Barnes decided it was a bad idea all round, and passed -- but Marchese now went all in. Sigh. "If you've got 'em, you've got 'em," said Lawrence, and called.

He's got 'em.

Lawrence: {K-Hearts} {K-Clubs}
Marchese: {A-Diamonds} {A-Hearts}

Board: {Q-Clubs} {5-Diamonds} {7-Clubs} {4-Hearts} {A-Spades}

"Bloody hell," comments Ryan Fronda, "I get excited over ace-jack."

Lawrence may finally have suffered a downswing that he can't recover from, as he has just 650 remaining. Marchese, however, seems to be our new chip leader with at least 35,000 as the table breaks.

Obrestacked

Annette Obrestad
Annette Obrestad
All eyes were on last year's main event champ Annette Obrestad as she pushed her last 2,275 into the middle with the board showing {K-Spades} {7-Clubs} {Q-Clubs} {10-Spades}.

Four players had limped into the pot preflop -- Obrestad one of them -- and all checked the flop. On the turn, everyone checked around to Annette who made the push into an 800 pot.

Action then fell to French pro Remy Biechel who made the call, as did Huseyin 'Sonofmyr' Yilmaz; the fourth player in the hand got out of the way.

Biechel and Yilmaz both checked the {2-Clubs} river and the following hands were shown down:

Obrestad: {9-Spades} {7-Spades}
Biechel: {J-Spades} {10-Clubs}
Yilmaz: {10-Hearts} {7-Hearts}

Yilmaz scooped the pot, worth just over 7,500 and Annette will have to try her luck again on Monday.
