Run His Kors(ar)

Johannes Korsar has been knocked out by Pettru Bergius in a little bit of Scandie-on-Scandie action.

The flop read {A-Hearts} {7-Hearts} {K-Diamonds} and Korsar had bet 1,100. Bergius check-raised to 2,400 and Korsar decided the only way to stop that was to reraise to 5,125. Bergius, clearly had enough, so decided to set Korsar all in for his remaining 9,000 or so.

"I guess," said Korsar, "I have to call," flipping {A-Diamonds} {7-Diamonds}. Bergius showed {9-Hearts} {8-Hearts}. The turn was the {6-Spades} and Bergius now had 15 outs for the river, one of which was the {4-Hearts} which duly hit, eliminating Korsar from the tournament.

Elementary, My Dear Watson

On an {A-Clubs}{3-Clubs}{Q-Hearts}{J-Diamonds} board and with 7,200 waiting patiently in the middle, recent WPT victor Michael Watson led out for 5,000 and Devilfish made the call. A {K-Diamonds} river was swiftly followed by a deep reach from Devilfish who slid enough chips across the line to put his foe all in.

With around 10,000 behind,Watson released a giant sigh before scratching his head pensively. At first, he seemed poised for a fold as he grasped his cards, but after a minute or two of further deliberation, opted for the call.

As Devilfish went to reveal his cards, Watson dejectedly asked, "Jack ten or nine ten?" Devilfish flipped the latter as he lay {10-Clubs}{9-Clubs} onto the felt.

Viva la Espana!

2001 World Series of Poker Main Event champ Juan Carlos Mortensen is back in business after a recent almost-double-up that shot him up to 28,000 in chips.

Mortensen, holding quad sixes, was able to extract an extra 5,000 in chips from his opponent on the river to climb back up the chip count ladder.

Welsh Wizard Disappears

Welshman Roberto Romanello pushed for a total of 11,800 in a four way pot. With the board reading {2-Diamonds}{6-Hearts}{10-Diamonds}, Romanello managed to get past two opponents, but not Tom Dwan who swiftly made the call with {6-Diamonds}{6-Spades}. Romanello tabled {K-Diamonds}{8-Diamonds}.

On the clinical {2-Clubs}, Romanello rose from his seat and wished his opponents good luck before the {Q-Diamonds} river rubbed extra salt into the already gaping wound.

As Dwan stoically scooped up the pot, Romanello made a sharp exit, looking about as happy as an Eskimo in the desert.

Say Tabatabai to Cunningham

John Tabatabai - Early Assassin
John Tabatabai - Early Assassin
Allen Cunningham, having arrived an hour late, was gone a level later. Talking to John Tabatabai, now nicely stacked with 50,000, it was, according to him, "Strange. The second hand he played he made the most ridiculous bluff..." I guess Tabatabai was the recipient of said unexpectedly bluffed chips, while one of the most successful players around has bitten the early tournament dust.

Replacing him at the table is Roland de Wolfe, already receiving what promises to be the first of multiple massages, climbing upwards in chips but liable to effervesce them around the table or end the day in great shape - you never can tell.

The Name's Bond, Devilfish Bond

License to thrill
License to thrill
As I was hovering over Devilfish's table awaiting an all-in like a blood-thirsty vulture, three members of the camera crew came charging over and announced that they would be focusing their attention on this table for a while.

Another chap then pulled out a roving camera, and informed the table that after certain hands, they would be asked to show their hand to the mobile camera. "It'll only take thirty seconds," he explained. "We'll put the camera down on the felt and you just show the hand to the camera as if you were checking your cards."

If that wasn't enough, he then asked every player to turn to the camera and say their name. As the camera found its way to the Devilfish, the former safe-cracker said with a wink, "The name's Bond, James Bond."

Well, I guess Devilfish would make a good secret agent, he does love the ladies and he's cucumber cool, but his choice of attire and lack of a low profile may let him down.

For A Thew Dollars More

Julian Thew raises to 500 from the hijack and Daniel Colman reraises from the button to 1,500. Thew makes the call and then check-calls 1,800 on the {4-Clubs} {7-Spades} {Q-Diamonds} flop, before Colman fires another bet of 3,025 on the {10-Spades} turn which the EPT Baden champion calls.

On the {7-Hearts} river, Thew now bets out 4,000 and his young opponent folds, though not without a little thought.

Rheem Rheads Rhight

But still makes the call...

He'd reached the river, the board {6-Clubs} {8-Hearts} {K-Hearts} {7-Diamonds} {A-Spades} , along with Henrik Gwinner, who had dwelled for a while before firing 2,500 into a pot of about 5,000. David "Chino" Rheem, already having increased his stack to 35,000, seemed very reluctant to make the call, but didn't stop talking - half to Gwinner, half to himself.

"You took so long before you bet that river," he mused, "What were you thinking about?"

Gwinner declined to answer.

"I'm about to make a bad call," Rheem said, getting his 2,500 ready. "Ace-Queen?" He threw it in. Gwinner revealed the winning {A-Diamonds} {Q-Diamonds} .

"Read him like a book," commented usually taciturn tablemate Juha Helppi.

Sorry Guys, Today You're One-Tabling

Online legends Brian 'sbrugby' Townsend, Mike 'Timex' McDonald and Jordan 'iMsoLucky0' Morgan are all sitting together on table 16. Morgan and Townsend have been there all day; McDonald is a new addition. Townsend currently leads the table in chips with ~36,000, though when you put three guys together who are capable of turning on the turbo boosts at any given time, anything can happen. Here's a look at how they stack up at the moment:

McDonald: 19,300
Townsend: 36,000
Morgan: 7,300
