Just a Jack?

Phil Hellmuth
Phil Hellmuth

"I'm raising every hand! I'm not folding to three-bets!" Phil Hellmuth just said after beating Andrey Gulyy in a pot. Hellmuth has had an amazing day so far, and his stack is right around 300,000.

Hellmuth raised to 4,000 from middle position after which Gulyy three-bet to 10,500. Hellmuth called right away, and the flop brought out {5-Spades}{4-Hearts}{J-Diamonds}.

Hellmuth checked quickly and Gulyy threw out 8,000. The 12-time WSOP bracelet winner quickly check-raised to 16,000 and Gulyy called.

"They always underestimate me," Hellmuth said before the turn brought out the {10-Hearts}.

"Oh that's so sick. I had him on nines or tens," Hellmuth added, as he quickly checked to Gulyy. The Russian pro checked behind. On the river the {7-Hearts} showed up and Hellmuth casually threw out 9,000. Gulyy called.

"Just a jack," Hellmuth said, but Gulyy waited for him to turn his cards over. Hellmuth showed {Q-Hearts}{J-Hearts}, and jaws dropped.

"You have a flush!" Kristijonas Andrulis laughed, as did everyone else besides Gulyy.

"Oh shoot! I thought I had queen-jack off" Hellmuth added as Gulyy frustradely mucked his cards.

"What a slowroll!" Andrulis added as Hellmuth apologized for misreading his hand. Gulyy was left behind short while Hellmuth is one of the chip leaders.

River Raise Wins For Kuether

With the board reading {K-Spades}{Q-Clubs}{2-Clubs}{2-Spades}, we found Joe Kuether heads up in a pot. His opponent bet 6,500 and Kuether flat called. The {5-Spades} fell on the river and Kuether's opponent bet out 16,000.

Kuether sat thinking for about a minute before reaching for chips and moving out a raise to 37,500. His opponent released and Kuether took down the pot.

Payan Succumbs

Elie Payan got his last 15,000 all in preflop and was in very bad shape against Robert Schiffbauer.

Showdown
Schiffbauer: {9-Clubs}{9-Hearts}
Payan: {9-Diamonds}{5-Diamonds}

Payan was in need of some major help, but he wouldn't receive any as the board ran out {2-Clubs}{7-Clubs}{A-Spades}{3-Diamonds}{7-Hearts}. With that, Payan collected his things and exited the tournament.

Boeree Falling

Nicolas Cieutat opened with a 2,600 raise only to have Liv Boeree three-bet to 6,000 from the big blind. Cieutat called and the flop brought {k-Spades}{2-Hearts}{10-Spades}.

Boeree continued for 7,300 and Cieutat called. They both checked the {4-Spades} on turn as well as the {3-Clubs} on the river. After Cieutat checked on the river, Boeree flung her cards to the muck without turning them over. Cieutat showed {A-Hearts}{10-Clubs} for a pair of tens and was pushed the pot.

Reilly Plays The Hero

Liv Boeree just called us over and pointed to Timothy Reilly. "You just missed a very interesting hand," she said and Reilly explained to us what happened.

Eric Sichere raised from early position to 2,600 and Reilly three-bet to 5,400 from middle position. The action was folded back to Sichere, and he made the call.

The flop came down {3-}{8-}{9-} with two diamonds and Sichere check-called 3,200. On the turn a {7-} hit and Sichere checked again. Reilly fired out 3,200 and his opponent decided to min-raise. Reilly called the extra 3,600 and the river was the {6-Diamonds}.

There were now three diamonds and a four card straight on board. Sichere bet 12,000, and Reilly made the call with just {3-Clubs}{2-Clubs}. Sichere showed {K-}{J-Diamonds} and lost. Reilly's call was very impressive and he's now up to 119,000 chips.

Hellmuth's Set Holds Up

Phil Hellmuth
Phil Hellmuth

Stephan Gerin was all in on the {7-Clubs}{6-Clubs}{3-Hearts} flop with the {A-Clubs}{10-Clubs} against the {6-Hearts}{6-Spades} for Phil Hellmuth. No club came on the turn or river as the board ran out with the {2-Spades} and {4-Spades}. Hellmuth had Gerin easily covered and sent him to the rail en route to jumping to 275,000 in chips.

Updated Chip Counts

Cohen Takes Some From Mercier

In a battle between Miami Dolphins fans Sam Cohen just took some chips from Jason Mercier. Mercier raised from the button to 2,400 and Sam Cohen defended her big blind.

The flop came down {5-Spades}{Q-Diamonds}{9-Clubs} and Cohen check-called 2,200. On the turn the {K-Diamonds} hit and both players checked. The river brought the {2-Diamonds} and casually Cohen tossed out 5,100. Mercier took a good look at the board and called.

Cohen tabled {J-Diamonds}{10-Clubs} and took down the pot.

Conte Takes a Bite Out of the Grinder's Stack

Three players created a preflop pot of 14,000 and saw a flop of {8-Spades}{2-Spades}{6-Diamonds}. The hijack checked, Maxime Conte bet 7,500 from the cutoff, and Michael "The Grinder" Mizrachi called from the button. After the hijack folded, the dealer burned and turned the {8-Hearts}, which both players checked.

Conte then checked the {9-Clubs} river and watched Mizrachi toss out three grey T5,000 chips for a bet of 15,000. Conte struggled with what to do, but eventually he put in the call and was glad he did as Mizrachi sent his cards to the muck. A winning hand must be shown, so Conte tabled {4-Clubs}{4-Spades} and was pushed the pot.

Meanwhile, 1998 World Series of Poker Main Event champ Scotty Nguyen was eliminated the next table over.
