Hellmuth Left on a Nub

Level 7 : 5,000/10,000, 15,000 ante
Phil Hellmuth
Phil Hellmuth

Omaha Hi-Lo 8 or Better

In a four-way pot to the {q-Hearts}{10-Spades}{6-Diamonds} flop, action checked all the way around and the {j-Diamonds} turn brought no betting action either. Phil Hellmuth then bet the {8-Diamonds} river and Sam Higgs called, Phil Hui and Roland Israelashvili folded.

"Good call," Hellmuth said and Higgs only revealed his {10-Clubs}{9-Spades} for a straight.

Hui asked to see the full hands and Hellmuth replied with a dry voice "I am happy to show my cards" as he was caught bluffing with the {k-Hearts}{5-Spades}{3-Clubs}{2-Hearts}, Higgs had the {10-Clubs}{9-Spades}{8-Clubs}{x-} to rake in the pot.

Higgs and Israelashvili then chopped a pot in O8 while Hellmuth was left with very few chips.

Higgs Applies Pressure

Level 7 : 5,000/10,000, 15,000 ante

Seven Card Stud

Julien Martini: {x-}{x-} / {6-Clubs}{2-Spades}{k-Diamonds}{2-Clubs} / {x-}
Phil Hellmuth: {x-}{x-} / {k-Clubs}{j-Spades}{8-Hearts}{a-Diamonds} fold
Sam Higgs: {x-}{x-} / {q-Hearts}{5-Clubs}{2-Hearts}{3-Hearts} / {x-}

Julien Martini was ahead with a pair of deuces on sixth in three-way action and checked, as did Phil Hellmuth, and Sam Higgs bet. Martini made the call while Hellmuth opted to fold.

On seventh, Martini checked once more and a bet of Higgs won the pot uncontested. Martini wanted Higgs to show, who just flashed his cards for the virtual rail as nobody was standing behind on the balcony that overlooks the poker arena.

The POY Contenders at a Glance

Level 7 : 5,000/10,000, 15,000 ante

Shaun Deeb has chipped up again and played for some time at the same table as Robert Campbell and Daniel Negreanu to have the 2019 WSOP Player of the Year top three all together. However, with the addition of Dario Sammartino there were 25 active players and Deeb was moved to a new table that now also contains Ivo Donev, James Chen and Phil Ivey.

Thomer Pidun: {x-}{x-} / {8-Diamonds}{k-Hearts}{2-Hearts} fold
Phil Ivey: {x-}{x-} / {5-Hearts}{9-Spades}{8-Clubs}

Thomer Pidun completed and called a raise by Ivey, who then bet fourth and fifth street. Pidun check-called once and check-folded to the second bet.

Tobias Leknes: {x-}{x-} / {3-Spades}{a-Clubs}{q-Clubs} fold

On the {8-Spades}{3-Spades}{2-Hearts}{a-Diamonds} turn, Daniel Negreanu made it 40,000 to go from the cutoff and Robert Campbell called on the button. They checked the {10-Clubs} river and Negreanu turned over {a-Spades}{k-Diamonds}{q-Spades}{j-Hearts}, which ended up as the winning hand.
