Black Battled Blind

Andy Black lost a pot to Alex Keating in a blind battle that left him with 71,000 to his opponent's 67,000. There was raising chips in the middle and a {j-Diamonds}{7-Diamonds}{3-Diamonds} flop on show. Keating check-called a 3,500 bet here and a 5,500 bet on the {k-Clubs} turn. The river came {k-Clubs} and Keating led for 9,000. Black looked confused at this move but called quickly. Keating said "King" and tabled {k-Diamonds}{q-Hearts} prompting a fold and a shake of the head from Black.

Big Pot Won By Fives

On the flop of {A-Spades}{8-Hearts}{6-Clubs}, James Mitchell checked to Darren Woods. He fired 30,500 and Mitchell check-raised to 70,500. Woods made the call creating a big, hefty pot as the {8-Clubs} fell on the turn. Mitchell thought for a bit and then checked. Woods slid out a bet of an unknown amount and Mitchell immediately folded. Woods tabled the {5-Hearts}{5-Spades} and won the pot. He now has 335,000 in chips while Mitchell dropped to 120,000.

Table of Death - They Just Keep Dying

By the by, the table which is now being ruled by the iron fist of Viktor Blom is in serious contention for the title Table Of Death. It's not that this table has more big names on it than others, but rather that they seem to have lost more players from there than from anywhere else in the room.

As Charles Chua busted out, Jonathan Aguiar sighed, "It's time for another break then," and moved away from the table to play with his phone - Chua's demise had left them six-handed and the dealing paused until another player was found from somewhere. Aguiar told us that he thought two players had busted from that table before he'd arrived, and that he had personally seen nine meet their tournament ends around that accursed felt - we're guessing by the stack sizes that Viktor Blom did more than his fair share of the culling.

"Bring us 10 this time, then maybe this won't keep happening," called over the bored and somewhat frustrated Aguiar to the TD.

From The Book Of Eli

We've seen from High Stakes Poker how Eli Elezra likes to play suited connectors and playing them just now has seen his stack rise to 78,000. Farzad Bonyadi raised from UTG and Elezra called from two seats along to see a {10-Hearts}{3-Hearts}{2-Diamonds} flop. Bonyadi check-called a 7,100 bet before the {2-Diamonds} turn and {3-Clubs} river were checked through.

"King-high" announced Bonyadi. It was no good though as Elezra tabled {10-Spades}{8-Spades} to put him down to 37,500.

Russian Off

Vitaly Lunkin
Vitaly Lunkin

James Bord opened to 3,200 from under the gun and received two callers: Thomas Bichon one seat down and Remy Biechel in middle position. Short stack Vitaly Lunkin, however, threw a spanner in the works by moving all in from the small blund for 15,100.

Attempting to isolate the Russian, Bord reraised to 27,000 (although he initially raised 25,000), only for Bichon to increase the price of poker to 65,000!

After Biechel had folded what he later revealed to be {8-}{8-}, Bord released {A-}{J-} with a look of 'you better have a hand', to lead us to a showdown.

Lunkin: {K-Diamonds}{K-Hearts}
Bichon: {Q-Spades}{Q-Diamonds}

Despite a harmless {7-Spades}{9-Diamonds}{2-Spades} flop and {8-Clubs} turn, a cruel {Q-Hearts} arrived to award the Frenchman the pot. Lunkin looked about as happy as a penguin in a microwave, and simply nodded his head and exited stage left in silence.

The Takeover

"Your chest in the line of fire witcha thin-ass vest"
"Your chest in the line of fire witcha thin-ass vest"

From middle position, JP Kelly raised to 3,000. Matt Stout called from the hijack seat and then action fell on Nick Schulman in the cutoff. He tossed out a three-bet to 11,500 and that won the pot. On the very next hand, more chips went Schulman's way. In fact, a lot more chips went his way.

Nicolas Levi raised to 3,000 from early position and Schulman made the call from the hijack seat. Phil Ivey called as well from the big blind and the three players took the flop of {A-Hearts}{4-Spades}{3-Clubs}. Ivey and Levi checked to Schulman and he fired out 6,500. Ivey folded before Levi made the call.

The turn card added the {8-Clubs} to the board. Levi passed the option to Schulman once again. Schulman took another opportunity to bet and fired 15,000. Levi thought and then called.

The river completed the board with the {2-Hearts}. Levi checked and Schulman tossed out five red T5,000 chips for a bet of 25,000. Levi called and Schulman rolled over the {4-Clubs}{4-Hearts} for a set of fours. Levi mucked and dropped below 100,000 while Schulman improved to a nice, big stack of 255,000.

Chu'd Up, Spat Out

Viktor Blom, yesterday
Viktor Blom, yesterday

We arrived just in time to see Charles Chua's whole stack heading into the middle, followed by just a very small percentage of Viktor Blom's chips.

Chua: {a-Clubs}{a-Hearts}
Blom: {7-Clubs}{7-Hearts}

Board: {j-Spades}{8-Spades}{q-Diamonds}{7-Diamonds}{5-Spades}

"Sorry, sorry," said a wincing Blom as he turned a set to eliminate the popular "Mr. Macau". "Oh, I feel bad now. So sick."

Chua seemed to have a bad feeling about today, though - if you recall he thought he'd lost with kings against sevens earlier when he hadn't - and he took his demise with good grace.

Young Mr. Blom is now our chip leader on around 350,000.

Taken To Schul-man

Nick Schulman fired out 8,000 on the river after Phil Ivey checked the {4-Spades} {10-Clubs} {Q-Diamonds} {K-Clubs} {A-Clubs} board across to him. But Ivey quickly threw out a 32,000 raise which made Schulman look about as happy as if his opponent had managed to pick up the last piece of chocolate cheesecake at an important dinner right in front of his very eyes.

Schulman, checked, rechecked and re-rechecked his cards but they didn't change, and after a sigh he gave up his hand to Ivey, the man who is to chips as to what a black hole is to space, time and light.

Table of Invisible Death

Antonio Esfandiari - so hard to see, this photo is from yesterday
Antonio Esfandiari - so hard to see, this photo is from yesterday

It's real shame that one of the famousest (not a word, but it is now) tables is tucked away right at the back of the balcony where no-one without a press pass or a TV camera is allowed to go. Because the tourists would have loved this one:

Seat 1: Nikolay Evdakov
Seat 2: Allen Cunningham
Seat 5: Bruno Fitoussi
Seat 6: Yevgeniy Timoshenko
Seat 7: Daniel Negreanu
Seat 8: Antonio Esfandiari

Perhaps because there's nobody really there to hear it apart from the other players, the banter has been a bit muted - we usually expect higher-volume stuff of Negreanu and Esfandiari, at least. Still the chips are flying around - most notably, Antonio Esfandiari has recovered from handing most of his chips over to Nikolay Evdakov earlier, and is currently the table captain on just a little under 200,000.
