Ladies Bracelet Event Added to 2013 WSOP Europe; Series Runs Oct. 11-25 in Paris

WSOP Europe

The schedule for the 2013 World Series of Poker Europe Presented by BarrierePoker.fr, which will take place at the lakefront Casino Barrière Enghien-les-Bains less than 10 miles from Paris, was announced back in May, but now officials have decided to add a new bracelet event to kick off the schedule — a first-ever €1,000 + €100 buy-in Ladies No-Limit Hold’em tournament.

The tournament, which will open the 2013 WSOPE on Friday, Oct. 11 at 6:00 PM local time and last two days, brings the number of bracelets offered up to eight – one more than in 2012 and 2011.

“We first offered a Ladies event at the Vegas WSOP in 1977, and felt it was the right time to add this tradition to WSOPE,” said WSOP Executive Director Ty Stewart. “We need to do more to promote ladies involvement with the game, and with the many breakout stars in the region, it feels like a women’s European championship is long overdue.”

The entire WSOP gold bracelet schedule will feature 46 non-bracelet side events during the two-week poker series. The first open bracelet event of the series is a No Limit Hold’em re-entry event at noon on Saturday, Oct. 12 (Flight A) and Sunday, Oct. 13 (Flight B).Those who bust out of Flight A may re-enter Sunday’s Flight B.

Organizers are expecting a large turnout as host partner Barrière has committed to qualify a minimum 100 players for the €10,000 Main Event through land-based and online promotions. Additionally and new this year, live web streaming sponsor 888 Poker has pledged to qualify a minimum 50 online qualifiers for the Main Event, plus additional packages for the preliminary bracelet events.

The WSOP announced last December that it was moving the WSOP Europe to Paris after spending two years in Cannes. The newly renovated Casino Barrière Enghien-les-Bains facility will hold all of the tournament action in one room, and a 500-seat theatre will host final tables and television production. The 2013 WSOP Europe will be televised around the world with coverage on ESPN and Eurosport.

History was made at last year's WSOP Europe as Phil Hellmuth captured the Main Event title to claim his record-setting 13th bracelet. Other bracelet winners in Cannes last fall were Antonio Esfandiari, Jonathan Aguiar, Roger Hairabedian, Imed Ben Mahmoud, Francisco Da Costa Santos and Giovanni Rosadoni.
