The Online Railbird Report: Blom on a Downswing; Ivey Wins November's Biggest Pot

Phil Ivey

The Online Railbird Report is back, and we pick up by looking at all the PokerStars' high-stakes action from the first two weeks of November.

When we last reported, Viktor "Isildru1" Blom was on a huge upswing. Well, that came to an end, and since November 1 he is the biggest loser after dropping $823,464 in 6,841 hands over 41 sessions. Still, he enjoys a nice lead atop the leaderboard for the year's biggest winner.

Meanwhile, both Ilari "Ilari FIN" Sahamies (-$152,259 in 54 sessions/4,774 hands) and Phil "RaiseOnce" Ivey (-$40,621 in 34 sessions/15,910 hands) finished in the red. Despite losing over the past couple of weeks, Ivey actually won the biggest pot of November thus far, which you can read about below.

On the flip side, Ben "Sauce123" Sulsky is the biggest winner in November, up $223,627 in 2,304 hands spread across 14 sessions.

Kostritsyn Wins Nearly $500K in a Day

On Sunday, November 1, Alexander "joiso" Kostritsyn finished as the day's biggest winner after taking a little more than $400,000 from Blom at four tables of $1,000/$2,000 H.O.R.S.E. He then added an additional $81,000 at the 2-7 triple draw tables.

From there, things only got worse for Blom, who dropped $162,100 to "RaulGonzales" playing 2-7 triple draw, though he did mitigate his losses a bit by winning $105,000 in 46 hands of $200/$400 pot-limit Omaha against "cumicon." It was there the biggest pot of the day played out.

It began when Blom ($108,008) opened for $1,360 and then called when "cumicon" ($45,418) three-bet to $4,240. The 364 flop saw "cumicon" check, Blom bet $5,600, and "cumicon" check-raise to $14,000. Blom called and then called when "cumicon" shoved for $27,078 on the 9 turn.

"cumicon": K7Q7
Blom: J57A

Blom flopped the nuts, but "cumicon" turned a flush draw. The 3 river wasn't the spade he was looking for, and Blom was pushed the $90,956 pot.

Blom Stems the Bleeding With $192,300 Win

According to HighStakesDB, Blom had been on a six-day downswing, losing more than $1 million since October 29. Fortunately for him, he was able to slow his slide bit by finishing as the biggest winner of the day on Wednesday, November 4.

Blom got started at the PLO tables against "cumicon," who he took for $69,100 in 85 minutes. Blom was actually up more than $100,000 at one point, but then lost a big pot.

It happened when "cumicon" ($52,090) raised to $680 and Blom ($143,372) three-bet to $2,120. "cumicon" pushed back with a four-bet to $6,440, Blom called, and the flop came down A3J. Blom checked, "cumicon" bet $6,800, and Blom check-raised to $33,358. "cumicon" moved all in and Blom called the additional $12,292.

"cumicon": A6KQ
Blom: K7A10

Both players held top pair with a flush draw, and they agreed to run it twice. The 10J on the first run and KQ on the second gave both players the said flush, but of course "cumicon's" was best to scoop the $104,340 pot.

Interestingly, Blom also lost the biggest pot of the day. In it, action was five-handed when Sami "Lrslzk" Kelopuro ($51,063.88) raised to $1,400 on the button, Sahamies ($27,120.38) called from the small blind, and Blom ($145,767.91) three-bet to $5,600. Both his opponents called and the three players saw a flop of 1039.

Sahamies checked, Blom bet $16,795, and Kelopuro raised all in to $45,463.88. Sahamies folded and Blom made the call to create a $107,327.76 pot.

Blom: K10J5
Kelopuro: 3377

Kelopuro was ahead with bottom set, but Blom was drawing to both straight and flush draws. The 2 turn was not what he was looking for, and neither was the 5 river. Ship the pot to Kelopuro.

Ivey Takes on Kuznetsov in Marathon Match

At the beginning of the week, Ivey and Timofey "Trueteller" Kuznetsov squared off at the 8-Game tables for more than 26 hours!

HighStakesDB, who were tracking the game, reported that Kuznetsov was up $320,000 at the 14-hour mark, but over the next nine hours Ivey essentially got even. After 4,000 hands, Kuznetsov was up a modest $70,000.

In one hand during the $100/$200 no-limit hold'em round, Ivey ($131,240) opened for $600 with the 1010 and Kuznetsov ($295,778) called with the 710 to see a 277 flop. Kuznetsov checked his trips, Ivey bet $600, and Kuznetsov check-raised to $2,198.66. Ivey called and then hit his one outer when the 10 spiked on the turn.

Kuznetsov checked his inferior full house, Ivey bet $3,800, and Kuznetsov check-raised to $17,000. Ivey called and watched Kuznetsov fire out $26,396.87 on the 9 river. Ivey responded by moving all in for $111,441.34, and Kuznetsov called only to discover he was the victim of a cooler. Ship the $262,480 pot – the biggest of November thus far – over to Ivey.

The Biggest Pots of November Thus Far

The above hand was the biggest pot of November thus far, and we thought we'd round out the top three by looking at two pots played by Kuznetsov on November 5 in a $100/$200 PLO game against Kelopuro.

Hand #1: Kelopuro ($134,962.47) opened for $680, Kuznetsov ($77,475.18) called, and the flop came down 233. Kuznetsov checked, Kelopuro bet $600, and Kuznetsov check-raised to $3,238. A call was made and then Kuznetsov led out for $7,914 on the 10 turn.

Kelopuro raised to $26,670.18, Kuznetsov called, and the 8 completed the board on the river. Kuznetsov checked, Kelopuro bet $61,254.36, and Kuznetsov called off for $46,887 to create a $155,110.36 pot. Kelopuro tabled the AAJ10 for aces and threes, but it was no good as Kuznetsov held a full house with the 38QJ.

Hand #2: Kuznetsov ($146,564.88) raised to $680, Kelopuro ($65,778.77) three-bet to $2,120, and Kuznetsov four-bet to $6,440. Kelopuro called and then checked the K95 flop. Kuznetsov bet $8,638.66, Kelopuro called, and the A appeared on the turn. Kelopuro checked, Kuznetsov bet $30,235.32, and Kelopuro check-raised all in for $50,700.11. Kuznetsov made the call and the cards were turned up.

Kuznetsov: 99Q10
Kelopuro: KA6Q

Kelopuro held top two with a spade draw, but he needed to improve to best Kuznetsov's set of nines. The 5 river didn't do it, and Kuznetsov took down the $131,717.54 pot.
