Sotirios Kiokpasoglou Wins Aussie Millions Event #21

Melbourne’s Sotirios Kiokpasoglou won one of the last events of this year’s Aussie Millions, Event #21: The No Limit Hold’em Deep Freeze, for $106,380.

With a $AUD1,500 buy-in and 352 entrants, the event kicked off Jan. 30 with a $AUD457,600 prize pool.

Kiokpasoglou was not the only Melbourne local at the final table. He was joined by Luke Martinelli in second (AUD$67,495), Nicholas Mullen in fourth (AUD$33,180) and Nazih Sibau in sixth (AUD$19,450).

Also making the cut were Andreas Klatt, a German newcomer to Aussie Millions this year with some high cashes at third in this event and eighth in the Pot Limit Omaha Hi-Lo event (AUD$4,405); James Romero from the United States, whose only cash is in this event (securing third place for AUD$42,330); and Wonil Yun from South Korea who finished out the final table in this event and cashed in 56th in Event #8.

This isn’t Kiokpasoglou’s first Aussie Millions cash, though. He played in the Main Event this year and cashed in 48th place for AUD$25,000. Now, he’s definitely upped his game, and, effectively, the stakes.

This does almost knock his total live earnings out of the water. His best live cash to date according to The Hendon Mob was $80,171 and his total live earnings sit at $131,653.

The other Aussies at the table similarly have had their share of Aussie Millions experiences.

Martinelli cashed in three tournaments total this year, including Event #21, but this is his largest. In the Main Event, he came in at 49th, just behind Kiokpasoglou. He also placed 10th in the earlier No Limit Hold’em Terminator. The Hendon Mob places his total live earnings just above his recent cash at $74,023.

Similarly, Mullen and Sibau both had few cashes to their names and these were their biggest cashes in Crown tournaments.

Each level of the event was 60 minutes with late registration available for seven levels and no re-entries permitted.
