Negreanu Goes Wild with Seven-Five Offsuit on Poker After Dark Season 13 Debut

On Monday night, PokerGO aired the debut episode of "Poker After Dark” Season 13 titled “The Nosebleeds.”
The game was $200/$400 no-limit hold’em with a $400 big blind ante. The minimum buy-in was $40,000 with no max. Making their Poker After Dark debuts were MJ Gonzales, who some might know as Daniel Negreanu’s poker coach, and Zach Franzi. They were joined by Negreanu, Scott Seiver, Matt Berkey, and Dan Smith.

First Notable Pot to Gonzales
In the first notable hand of the episode, Smith raised the button to $1,000 with the 10♦7♦ and Gonzales three-bet to $4,200 holding the A♦Q♦ in the small blind. Smith called the flop came down 7♠Q♥8♠.
Gonzales bet $2,200 with top pair and Smith, who had flopped bottom pair, called to see the J♥ turn. Gonzales bet $5,000 and Smith, who picked up a gutshot straight draw, popped it to $23,500.
Gonzalez called to see the 5♣ river and then checked to Smith.
“Check,” Smith said, which prompted Gonzales to table his hand and collect the $60,600 pot.
Berkey Five-Bet Jams with Big Slick
Negreanu raised to $1,000 from the hijack with the J♥J♦ and Berkey three-bet to $2,500 with the A♦K♥ from the cutoff. Gonzales called from the small blind with the K♦Q♦ and then Seiver ditched his A♠Q♣ in the big blind.
Negreanu pushed back with a four-bet to $12,500 and Berkey five-bet jammed for $52,000. Negreanu asked for a count and began to talk through the hand.
“He doesn’t have queens I don’t think. He doesn’t have kings, he doesn’t have aces, he has ace-king for sure,” Negreanu said before making the call. Yet again Negreanu was spot on with his read. With $106,100 in the pot the duo agreed to run it twice.
The 2♥5♣8♥5♥9♦ on the first runout secured Negreanu half the pot, but the 7♥A♥Q♥ flop on the second was great for Berkey. Neither the 3♣ turn nor 8♠ river hurt Berkey and he got the other half. Chop it up!
“I Almost Called You with Queen High”
Negreanu raised the button to $1,000 holding the 10♠6♠ and Berkey called from the small blind with his Q♠10♣. Smith came along from the big with the 8♣3♣ and it was three-way action to the 8♦2♠9♥ flop.
Two checks saw Negreanu continue for $2,200 and Berkey woke up with a check-raise to $6,500. Smith got out of the way and Negreanu called with his gutshot straight draw.
The 5♠ turn saw Berkey bet $10,000 with his bigger gutshot straight draw and Negreanu, who turned a spade flush draw, called to see the A♥ river, which missed both players. Berkey slowed down with a check and with $36,400 in the pot Negreanu moved all in.
Berkey gave it a little thought and then tossed his queen-high into the muck. Negreanu showed him the bluff and Berkey responded, “I almost called you with queen high.”
Berkey Wakes Up with Aces
Seiver raised to $1,000 from early position with the A♠K♥ and action folded to Berkey, who looked down at the A♦A♣. He three-bet to $4,000 and called off for $36,000 total when Seiver four-bet jammed.
The duo agreed to run it twice, and Seiver needed to get lucky to get any part of the $73,600 pot. That didn’t happen though as he bricked the 7♣8♣J♦9♦K♦ on the first runout followed by the 5♥7♦2♥Q♠3♠ on the second.
With that, Berkey doubled while Seiver was left with just $8,000. He’d lose that a short time later and then reload.
Negreanu vs. Franzi in $119,000 Pot
Berkey raised to $1,000 under the gun holding the A♥9♥ and Smith called next to act with the K♦Q♦. Franzi tossed in an additional $800 to call from the small blind with his 7♦6♦ and then Negreanu got a little frisky by three-betting to $6,000 with the 7♠5♦ in the big.
Berkey and Smith both called, which gave Franzi a good prize to call. That made it four-way action to the 4♣2♣6♥ flop. Franzi, who flopped the best hand, checked it to Negreanu, who continued for $17,500. Berkey and Smith both folded, Franzi check-raised all in for $47,300. Negreanu called to create a $119,000 pot and they agreed to run it twice.
Neither the J♥ turn nor 9♠ river on the first helped Negreanu, which secured Franzi half the pot. The J♦ turn on the second run was followed by the 7♥ river and Franzi improved to two pair to scoop the pot.
By the end of the show, Negreanu was in for $150K while Franzi was the big winner up $69,000. Smith was stuck $31,000 while Seiver was down $46,000.
