PokerNews Exclusive: Daniel Negreanu Talks New Partnership with Kalshi

Can Daniel Negreanu predict the future?
When he’s at the poker table, he seemingly can when he accurately calls out his opponent’s hand. Well, now, the eight-time World Series of Poker (WSOP) gold bracelet winner is putting his soothsaying talents to the test by entering a new partnership with Kalshi, which is a regulated exchange & prediction market where you can trade on the outcome of real-world events such as sports, politics, pop culture, the economy, and more.
The first prediction exchange to be regulated by the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) in the United States, Kalshi users can trade event contracts, which are simple Yes/No contracts tied to real-world outcomes (i.e., Will Gavin Newsome be the next Democratic presidential nominee?).
"Will Trump ban lab-grown meat by the end of the year? I bet no, but I had to lay a big price."
“I'm stoked because I've sort of been holding this for a while because I've been playing on Kalshi for quite a while,” Negreanu told PokerNews in an exclusive interview.
“We've been sort of talking about how I could potentially help grow Kalshi and whatnot. It's so fun. I play Kalshi markets, where it's not about me making a bunch of money. I'm betting $100, $250, but I sweat the markets every day.”
He continued: “I got one that's so silly. I bet ‘Will Trump ban lab-grown meat by the end of the year?’ I bet no, but I had to lay a big price, right? It's just a lot of fun.
Negreanu offered an example: “One of my favorites is Week 1 of football. I had the Buffalo Bills against the Ravens, right? And I'm like, well, they're dead. So, I sold half of it and took half my money back. And then I'm like, you know what? They start to come back, I'm gonna buy them again. I bought them three times and sold them three times. I ended up getting screwed because Buffalo won, which I was happy about, but you get what I'm saying. It's just a blast. It's super fun … This isn't considered gambling as it’s a prediction market.”
Prediction markets let people trade on the outcomes of future events. They:
- Aggregate diverse opinions into a single market price.
- Reflect real-time sentiment about the odds of an event.
- Outperform polls in accuracy, since participants risk money on their forecasts.
- Capture the collective knowledge of event probabilities.
What About Poker?
While poker offerings are currently not available on Kalshi, that could very well change now that Negreanu is on board.
“What do poker players like to do? We like to make prop bets on a wide variety of different goofy markets that we come up with, right? And there's a whole bunch here, and you know, maybe in the future, there's nothing up there right now on this, but one of the things I thought about was where we discussed maybe some cool poker markets, right?”
"You can basically put your own predictive talents to the test, and the cool thing is you can make money doing this.”
He offered an example: “Will GGPoker hit the guarantee in its Super Main Event? What about putting a market on it? So, you bet yes, you bet no. There's a whole bunch of other things too … I'm not a legal expert, but, you know, I think there's certainly a lot of markets related to poker that we can put up … you can basically put your own predictive talents to the test, and the cool thing is you can make money doing this.”
Kalshi, which has over 1 million users and more than $2 billion in trades, is different than sportsbooks in that it is available in all 50 states including California, Texas, Florida, and Georgia. They offer better odds (they don’t have extra fees built in), you can place trades before and during games while watching how the market sentiment shifts as events unfold, and perhaps best of all, there are no trading limits. Which means if you’re winning too much, you won’t get limited like at many sportsbooks.
Negreanu Sending Someone to the Bahamas
To commemorate the new partnership, Negreanu revealed that he will personally award a $30,000 package to the WSOP Paradise, which will include a $26,000 seat in the Super Main Event.
All someone has to do is sign up for Kalshi using the code “DNEGS” and one lucky winner will be randomly selected. Not only that, those who use the code and put $100 in action will get a $40 bonus (terms and conditions apply).
“That's like 40% of your money already, you know, just for putting $100 in action,” Negreanu said excitedly. “For one of the people who signs up, I'll meet them in the Bahamas, maybe I'll give them some pointers, maybe they'll give me some pointers.
The $30K WSOP Paradise Package will include:
- $26K Super Main Event Ticket for Day 1a
- 9 Nights at the Atlantis Royal (Dec. 9-18)
- Exclusive Player’s Lounge
- GGPoker Paradise Merch
- Bubble Protection
