888poker $100K Mystery Bounty Main Event

888poker's flagship weekly tournament, the $109 buy-in, $100,000 guaranteed Mystry Bounty Main Event, drew in 922 entrants on Day 1, each hopeful of turning their initial investment into a much more meaningful amount. While some succeeded in doing so, "eko4gg" is the player who will forever be known as the champion. For their victory, "eko4gg" took home $10,044.

Usually, the $100,000 Mystery Bounty Main Event's field is reduced to eight on the first of its two days. However, this time around, the curtain came down on the Day 1 proceedings with only seven players remaining.

This is because "Antrage" and "monteiro23" were eliminated during the same hand on the final table bubble. While most people would ordinarily feel sorry for "Antrage" because they missed out on an official final table finish, they did scoop the $10,000 jackpot mystery bounty before busting, which should go some way to easing their pain.

Thanks partly to that double elimination, none of the seven finalists were particularly short-stacked, with Sweden's "manio57" bringing up the rear with their 24 big blind stack. "eko4ff" of Ukraine led the seven grinders back into battle, armed with 69 big blinds; the average stack was a shade under 39.5 big blinds.

It took less than an hour to go from seven finalists to the crowning of the champion. Swedish legend "VnilaVader" was the first to fall, doing so at the hands of Dara "Doked" O'Kearney. O'Kearney, who literally wrote the book on mystery bounty tournaments, bet his top pair on the river of a draw-heavy board and "VnilaVader" couldn't get away from his second pair.

That elimination came around the 20-minute mark and sparked a flurry of eliminations.

First, O'Kearney called "manio57"'s 15 big blind shove with pocket jacks, which held against a pair of sevens. O'Kearney then three-bet all-in with king-queen following a button raise from "Mentalented", who called the shove with pocket jacks and lost, which left only four players at the final table.

Those four became three when Denmark's "Silkkelade" jammed with ace-four of diamonds and lost to "eko4gg"'s queen-jack of spades courtesy of queen on the flop.

The $100,000 Mystery Bounty Main Event reached the heads-up stage when a short-stacked "ovisrb" committed their last eight big blinds with ace-six of diamonds and lost to the lowly seven-three of "eko4gg" after the board three-flushed.

"eko4gg" went into the one-on-one battle leading O'Kearney by 94.7 big blinds to 78.1 big blinds. First blood went to "eko4gg" who then proceeded to be smacked in the face by the deck for the rest of the heads-up clash.

The first scheduled break of the evening paused the match, and it was over soon after the tournament resumed. "eko4gg" min-raised with ten-nine of diamonds and called when O'Kearney three-bet to eight big blinds with ace-king. "eko4gg" flopped the world on the queen-king-jack flop that had two diamonds, improving to a straight with an open-ended straight flush draw to boot! O'Kearney led and was called. A non-diamond four landed on the turn, and O'Kearney moved all-in for 18 big blinds into the 26 big blind pot. "eko4gg" instantly called, and hit their flush on the river for good measure.
