They say that the best things come to those who wait, and for 888poker's players, the wait for the XL Autumn Series ended on Sunday. The festival is only two days old, yet 13 events have crowned their champions, including the $100,000 guaranteed RAKELESS Opening Event Mystery Bounty.
All $109 of this event's buy-in went into the prize pool, meaning a 924-strong field resulted in a guarantee-busting $100,716 prize pool. Day 1, on September 21, saw the field whittled to a final table of eight, with Brazil's "zipperb" leading the way and 888poker ambassador Ian "Simpioni" Simpson bagging enough chips for fifth-place at the restart.
By the time the eight-handed final table was set, the largest mystery bounties had been won. Brazilian "dineloco" collected the $10,000 jackpot bounty, and the aforementioned Simpson opened a golden envelope containing a $3,000 payout.
$100,000 Gtd Opening Event Rakeless Mystery Bounty Final Table Chip Counts
| Place | Player | Country | Bouties | Chip Count | Big Blinds |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | zipperb | Brazil | $2,566 | 4,325,552 | 87 |
| 2 | normannolly | Ukraine | $1,190 | 4,143,738 | 83 |
| 3 | rpuxa | Kazahkstan | $558 | 1,557,377 | 31 |
| 4 | raphaperfect | Brazil | $374 | 1,519,876 | 30 |
| 5 | Ian "Simpioni" Simpson | United Kingdom | $3,314 | 1,113,517 | 22 |
| 6 | Salvatore_G | Armenia | $198 | 798,307 | 16 |
| 7 | F_C_K | Germany | $1,072 | 246,347 | 5 |
| 8 | wp3k77 | Andorra | $2,290 | 155,286 | 3 |
Germany's "wp3k77" had less than two big blinds when they jammed all-in with king-five. "zipperb" called in the big blind with pocket sixes, which held on an ace-high board.
Seventh place went to Simpson. First, he lost a chunk of his stack when his king-jack of hearts lost a coinfip against the pocket deuces of "F_C_K" despite turning a myriad of outs. The following hand, Simpson three-bet all-in with pocket sevens for around 13 big blinds after "zipperb" had opened with queen-ten of diamonds. The initial raiser called, fopped a ten, turned a queen, and set Simpson to the rail.
Pocket sevens also eliminated "Salvatore_G" in sixth place. The action folded to "normannolly" in the small blind, who moved all-in with ace-six. "Salvatore_G" called off their 9.5 big blinds with a pair of sevens in the hole, only to see an ace appear on the flop. No miracle two outer for the at-risk player, and the tournament was left with only five players.
Those five became four when "F_C_K" fell by the wayside. Their stack had dwindled to six big blinds, and they went into the middle from the button holding ace-eight. "raphaperfect" called in the big blind with the dominated ace-deuce, but it would not stay the second-best hand for long. A deuce on the flop and another on the turn improved "raphaperfect" to trips, which were more than enough to reduce the player count again.
Fourth place went to "raphaperfect" despite leading at the start of four-handed play. They lost a chunk in a crazy hand that saw "rpuxa" min-raise on the button, "zipperb" three-bet to 8.6 big blinds, and they decided to four-bet to 18.9 big blinds. The initial raiser folded, but "zipperb" jammed all-in with just pocket fives, forcing "raphaperfect" to fold their ace-trey.
"raphaperfect" was still left with 31 big blinds, but nothing went their way. Their final participation was to call off their last 15 big blinds with king-eight from the big blind after "zipperb" set them all-in from the small blind with what turned out to be ace-deuce. The ace kicker played, and "raphaperfect" was gone.
The RAKELESS Mystery Bounty progressed to heads-up after the untimely demise of Ukraine's "normannolly" on the 90-minute mark. After losing a coinflip with ace-ten versus the pocket fives of "rpuxa," "normannolly" picked up ace-ten again in the very next hand. "zipperb" min-raised and called the 31 big blind shove from "normannolly" before turning over the superior ace-jack. That ace-jack improved to trip jacks by the river.
"zipperb" held a 78 big blind to 37.5 big blind lead over "rpuxa" going into the heads-up clash, and it didn't take them long to press home their advantage. They got the better of the early confrontations before a cooler hand brought the curtain down on the tournament.
"zipperb" limped with ace-six of diamonds, and "rpuxa" checked their king-seven of hearts. The flop fell six-four-ace with two hearts, and the chips were destined to go into the middle of the table at some point. "rpuxa" check-called a two-third-pot bet from their opponent, leading to another six on the turn, gifting "zipperb" a full house. "rpuxa" led for half pot and was called. A seven of hearts on the river improved "rpuxa" to what would ultimately be an expensive second-best hand. A bet, raise, and call later, and "rpuxa" was all-in with a flush, but the full house of "zipperb" claimed the pot, the title, and an $11,255 top prize.
